I think there might be an error in the trust point notifications, but I'm not sure. I'm only bringing this up to see if anyone's noticed the same thing, because I think I've seen it happen more than once.

Today, someone 'gave' me a trust point. However, when I went to look at my profile (I'll admit, to try and catch them so I could thank them ), I actually had one trust point LESS. Now, it's pretty early in the morning and there aren't many people on, and I had 62 TP just minutes ago. I think the chances of someone rating me up 1 or more.... and then someone rating me down 2 or more at the same time (especially given the time of day)... is pretty slim.

Therefore, what I'm wondering is this: I think the person might have, for example, rated me a 2 at some point earlier, gone to my profile and forgotten, thinking they'd give me a trust point. They went to 'give' me a trust point, which actually took one away.

If this is the case, this might need to be a notification issue that we can ask David to fix. (Getting the notification that you GOT a trust point simply because someone 'gave' you one, but in all actuality you lost one.) I know I've almost rated someone lower by accident a few times, and I keep having to remind myself to look at that little sentence that tells me how much I've rated someone.

Whether or not this notification is a glitch, maybe we could ask him to make that little sentence a different color, like red?

And by the way, I am NOT complaining.... :/ Why would I?
I just want to report it because I do think it might be a bug, but I can't know without other confirmations.

Singelli : Wow, that is really weird for that to happen. Did you get the notification? If your tp gets altered and you get no notification, that means you got down rated. However, you get a notification if you are given them. If you got one and your tp went down, that is very strange. Sorry to hear you lost tp, btw.

DittoDude44 :  It's not a big deal at all.  LOL  I used to care, but it's really not something to stress over.  I just want to make sure notifications are working properly, and to suggest that little sentence maybe gets changed colors.

oh! I actually have an idea!  I'm about to run out the door to work, but someone can help me test this.  If there's anyone that has given me more than 1 trust point, and you're willing to help me test it, let me know!  We can get online at the same time, and you can rate me with a smaller number.... and we can see if I get the notification.

Don't do it NOW. Just let me know if you are willing, and next time I see you online, we'll try it and see if it works that way or not.

The probability of a person 'forgetting' that they rated someone is very low. I say this because if you were to go to a user who you rated before, clicking the 'Rate User' button will show a blue dot that indicates what number of trust points you have given or taken away from said user.

However, your notification error theory might be possible. If a user were to rate you a 2 and decide to rate you a 1 instead, then it's possible that you would still get a notification stating that someone has given you a trust point.

...Or someone could be playing with you. They might have rated you a 2 long ago, then decide to rate you a 0, and finally rate you a 1. That way, you would get a notification about it.

Mistress : Well, the blue dot doesn't always appear, which is why I've almost made the mistake myself. Let me give you an example:

I can give away 8 TP a week. Let's say I have already given 6 away... that leaves me with 2, right? Well, when I go to 'rate user', I will only see TWO bubbles because that's how many TP I have left to give away. If I were to go to your profile but I had rated you a 4 before... I will not see that blue dot. For all intents and purposes, it will look like I never rated you at all, and I might be tempted to give you those 2 TP I have left. In reality, I'd be taking 2 TP AWAY from you if I didn't pay attention to the sentence below.

Does that make any sense? I've nearly done it soooo many times that I forgot it might not happen so often with other people.

It'd be funny to play such a prank and waste that TP. lol I wonder who could be so devious....



In any case, it doesn't matter who or why someone rated me down. If someone did it by accident or did it because they don't like me... I still want to know if rating someone a lower TP after rating them a higher TP.... will result in the notification.  

Well that's interesting to know. I always thought that if that type of scenario were to happen, the numbers 3 and 4 would be made into a grey sort of area and the numbers 1 and 2 would be the only ones you could place the blue dot on.

I can't even tell if my explanation makes sense anymore.

Mistress :  Maybe we need to make a suggestion for that to happen?  I'd be fine with either scenario. Different colored texts or grayed out bubbles. Actually, I think your idea would be more effective.  It also would negate the need for the sentence, perhaps.

Well if the notification said a user has given you trust points and you lost trust points that means a staff member or higher has down rated you, now if you don't receive a notification and you lose trust points that means some one who rated you up before took their trust points back. If that's the case then there is no bug because that's suppose to happen if someone takes the trust points they have given you back. Now about you asking was the down rate a accident most likely no it wasn't its pretty simple when it comes to up or down rating selection options and you basically have to try to accidentally select the wrong bubble for up or down rating. Me personally I think there should be a short summary box to explain why your down rating a user to help cut down on claims for unfair bias rate downs but I never expect that to ever be implemented simply because some individuals don't want to explain there actions (especially if they know there down rating for no legit reason)

Yes, I have had the same 'issue' before. I was online really early, had 6 TP, it showed me the notification, and I had 5. Like you, not complaining, however it was a pretty odd thing. I have no idea why it shows the notification. But to be honest, if you really want to rate someone up, look at possible previous ratings before clicking that button. Either it's a bug, or just the two of us

SuperCrash64 : Well, if what you're saying is true, that someone upvoted her one, that would mean a staff member would have had to downvote her by 2 for that to counterbalance and get the same scenario she is reporting. So it could be a bug with someone "upvoting" someone with less points than before.

We wanted to let you know about something that we think should be edited when it comes to TP notifications.  See, if I rate someone a 2, but then accidentally rate them a 1 later, they will get a notification which says someone has GIVEN them trust points.  However, when the person goes to view their profile, they will see that they have actually lost one.  Is it possible to fix the coding so that someone does NOT get a notification if they actually lost a point through a positive rating?

Along the same line of thought, Mistress had a really good idea concerning the little bubbles that show your last rating.  Instead of having the bubbles disappear, could you have them just gray out?  For example, if I use up 6 of my 8 ratings, only 2 bubbles will show on everyone's profiles for me to rate.  This unfortunately means sometimes, that I can't see what I rated someone (If I previously rated them more than 2 TP).  I understand that there is a statement below the bubbles, but many users aren't taking the time to read that.  If you just had the extra bubbles faded out, users would visually SEE the last rating they gave and wouldn't make mistakes of rating people lower than they meant to.

I've randomly lost about 4 TP's instead of gaining them as well sing, don't know what's up   

That'd be too time consuming to fix so it'll have to be something I do in the future.

Singelli : it's not too difficult but with my current schedule, I just wouldn't be able to squeeze it in. Until I get caught up, I only want to do fixes that take less than 15 minutes because I've got a lot of fixes I need to do and the time they take add up real fast. I've actually got 30+ tabs open with things users have requested that I look into lol. It was at 50+ tabs a few days ago but I've been slowly trying to get through them.

David, there might be a problem..... I was at 3 TP and I gained 2 so I should have 5 and be trusted, but I only have 4.
