Okay so I am a huge Dexter fan from season one to the end which I just
watched but I have to say the ending was not that great in my opinion,
you see Dexter develop from a cold blooded character that kills because
it is his drug and cares only about himself and Deb into a character
that learns to become human and control such urges. The entire last
season was him becoming more and more human while maintaining the
ability to kill like a psychopath should be able to and while I get that
all the emotions were somewhat new to him I just don't see them
breaking him down so easily. I mean we are talking about the guy who
killed his own brother, killed his lover Lila, killed one of his closest
friends Camilla at her request, killed another close friend and his
first 'disciple' Miguel Prado etc etc. He has even survived through the
death of his wife Rita who he actually loved, though he had times where he did
go off his path he made it through, now I know he felt responsible for
Deb's severe injury which led to a Coma but still to break down and kill
her seems to be too much for me. Deb was Dexter's only family and the
person closest to him even closer than Hanna yet he took her off life
support when there was still a chance she could recover, I just don't
see him doing that.
Then of course we have the whole protecting Hanna and Harrison from him because he destroys everything around him thing, okay yes I get he feels that he does cause trouble/tragedy but at the same time he has seen individuals far worse than him like the trinity killer who had a family but they hated him and wished him gone from their lives instead of loving him. Not to mention he helped Lumen immensely by letting her kill her captors even bringing her peace so she could continue on with her life, so all in all I don't really see him feeling this way as he has good in him as well.
Then he drives his boat into a hurricane and it gets destroyed he is presumed dead by everyone even Hanna though there is no body, that ending would have been more acceptable to me then actually seeing Dexter in some logging place with a grizzly beard just looking at the camera to end it.
I mean come on there is no end like that really, there are questions like is Dexter still killing people?, will Dexter ever go back to Hanna and Harrison? Etc etc.
So all in all while I love the show I cannot say that I enjoyed the end of the series.
That is just my opinion so I am interested in hearing what others have to say about the series finale.
