For those of you that don't know, I didn't go to work today. I was showering when I felt the need to take a day, and so I called in. I'm nearly ALWAYS around people.... all day I'm around hundreds of students and dozens of coworkers. Most of them are never happy with me and are making some kind of demand. Then when I get home, my husband is extremely clingy and wants to be by my side every second. And usually he's wanting something as well.

I don't even get a CAR ride alone because he drops me off at work and picks me up.

When I made the decision to stay home, I immediately felt a huge sense of relief. However, things didn't go well and my principal got very upset with me through some text messages. This made me regret my decision, but by then my husband had already left for work and so I couldn't change my mind. I was worried my principal wouldn't get a sub, and so I spent the next hour fretting near my phone and trying to figure out the best way to apologize. (After all, we all know how she feels about me.)

Luckily, another teacher texted me to let me know I had a sub. I wasn't crazy about WHO was subbing for my class, but at least I could rest knowing it was taken care of.

Well.. I decided to clean. With my husband and I being away for 12+ hours a day, his video gaming, and my working at home... nothing ever gets done around here. I was sick and tired of the way the house looked.

And so I spent the last 10 hours cleaning. Yes... 10 hours straight. I can't tell you how very relaxed I feel right now. Does that ever happen to anyone else?

These are the things I got done today:
6 very, VERY large loads of laundry (washed, folded, hung, and put away)
took out 3 VERY large bags of garbage mainly collected around Jason's gaming area and the kitchen counters
unpacked 2 boxes and found places for all that stuff
Cleaned up Jason's gaming area of all the cords, controllers, games, systems, food, etc.
Vaccuumed all carpets
Swept and mopped all tiled floor
Went through the fridge and trashed all bad foods
Cleaned all the fridge shelves and then reorganized the food
SCRUBBED the food drowned stove top clean
Fixed the stove
Fixed the toaster
Cleaned all other kitchen surfaces
3 LARGE sinks full of dishes (Washed, dried, and put away)
Took the rest of my books out from the Dressers and put them on shelves
Washed the trashcan
Set up Jason's gaming area with cold soda, napkins, and other stuff he likes around him
Cleaned my bathroom floor

I didn't get anything else done because Jason came home as I was scrubbing my bathroom floor. You know how he greeted me? I worked my butt off doing things I've been asking him to do for months. Or things he couldn't do like fix the stove or fix the toaster. LOL

He took my play list down, blasted Mass Text as a joke, and said "So are you coming out there? I have dinner for you." (referring to the living room)

Well, at least I have a totally clean house that looks brand new! ^.^ I got to throw on MY heat, blast MY music, drink MY soda, eat MY food, and do what -I- wanted to do. All things I hardly ever do. I even got to keep the windows up and shades up!

It just makes me wish I had another free day..... I could do this every day, as weird as some of you will find that.

So have you ever needed a day to yourself and taken it? What did you do and were you satisfied?

Singelli : Let's see, the last day I took any kind of day off was before I found this site, now I have a full time job because of it so I don't get much free time, even for school.

It's pretty much been awhile since I took a day off, When I used to have a job, and I had a job while I was in school, I pretty much had no days off, it's pretty much work work work, but now since I'm not in school, and sadly, don't have a job, I pretty but got a lot of days off.

A week ago, I was absent from school due to a hackin cough and fever. I loved it, I got to be on vizzed all day while my brother was at school, just, me, my grandma, my baby brother, I, and myself. I loved it.

I can relate to feeling the need to take time for yourself.  In my case I haven’t really taken time for myself in a while.  Practically my whole life is revolved around my writing and things related to my writing. On down days (Days I’m not writing) the only thing I really do is sleep.  I don’t go out much at all so I don’t think of those days as days that I necessarily take for myself. I prefer to think of those days as simply recharging my batteries as I’m usually exhausted and days tend to run together and go by quickly when you keep odd hours. 

 

It would be nice if I could eventually get to a point where I could tell myself it’s okay to take a step back and really try to relax go out a little more. I’m not at that point just yet, hopefully one day I’ll get there.
