The point of this thread is to talk about the New York Islanders. I decided to make this because I am a huge Islanders fan. I will be posting game recaps, videos, news, etc. in this thread. The Islanders play their first game of the season tonight at 7:00 PM (EST). They will be playing the Devils as the away team. They play their first home game tomorrow, against the Blue Jackets. I will be at that game, right behind the visitor's bench, so I will definitely post pictures in here!

Here is a video of a brawl between the Islanders and the Penguins from 2011. You can tell that the announcers are Penguins announcers because they say that the Islanders are an embarrassment to the NHL.

with the shake up of new divs this year i'm not sure how they will go, they may sneak into the final 8 again they are good enough to do it.   

tgags123 : Well right now it looks like they are the best team in the Division. I am more of a Rangers fan, but I can't wait for the Islanders to move to Brooklyn. I might watch some more of their games.

Today's game against the Devils was very close. Here is a quick recap of the game:

1st Period

3 minutes into the game, Damien Brunner gave the Devils a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Dainius Zubrus and Andrei Loktionov.

With 11:53 left in the first period, Michael Grabner tied the game with a nice breakaway goal. The shot just slipped under the pads of Martin Brodeur. The assist went to Travis Hamonic.

The first period ended with the score tied at 1.

2nd Period

After no goals were scored for the first 5 minutes and 40 seconds of the period, New Jersey's Michael Ryder scored a nice goal. The Islander's goalie Evgeni Nabokov didn't even see it. The assists were credited to Bryce Salvador and Marek Zidlicky.

The Islanders tied it up again with 6:17 remaining in the period. Michael Grabner scored his second goal of the night, both of them on breakaways. Josh Bailey got the only assist.

The second period ended with a 2-2 tie.

3rd Period

Only 2 minutes and 10 seconds into the third period, the Islanders scored, giving them their first lead of the game. The goal was scored by Frans Nielsen. Hey made a really good play and just snuck it by Brodeur.

With 12 minuets and 34 seconds remaining in regulation, the New Jersey Devils tied it up again. The goal was scored by Damien Brunner, his second of the night.

The third period ended with both teams having a 3 on the scoreboard.

Overtime

There were a lot of great chances in overtime, but the goalies made some fantastic saves and pushed the game into a shootout.

Shootout

The shootout was very long and exciting. After 6 rounds, no goals were scored. In the 7th round, The Islander's Matt Moulson beat Brodeur, giving the Islanders a 4-3 victory.

tgags123 : Were you at the game, or were you just glued to the TV?

zanderlex : Glued to the TV haha. I will be at the game tomorrow, though. I have excellent seats. They are the row just above the visitor's bench. If you look really close, you could probably see me on TV!

tgags123 : I have never been to the place, but I heard that it's a disaster, which is why they are moving to Brooklyn. I have questions, what do you think of the arena, and how do you feel about them moving?

zanderlex : You mean Nassau Coliseum? It is dirty, old, and is falling apart. And I love it. I hate that they are moving to Brooklyn. I went to a pre-season game at the Barclays Center and I absolutely hated it. Even the Nassau Coliseum is physically worse, I love it so much more.

The Islanders lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a shootout yesterday. The final score was 3 to 2. Because it went into overtime, the Islanders still got a point out of it, making their record 1-0-1. I am not going to do a full recap because I was at the game with the "best seats", but I couldn't see a thing! Islander's goalie Evgeni Nabokov had a great game until the end, where he let it two goals, allowing the Blue Jackets to tie it up and force it into overtime. The Islanders goals were scored by Lubomir Visnovsky and Matt Moulson. John Tavares had two assists. The Blue Jackets goals were scored by Mark Letestu and Ryan Johansen.

The Islanders next game is on Tuesday October 8th at 7 PM. They are playing at home against the Phoenix Coyotes.

tgags123 :   I looked and I looked but I could not find you anywhere in the seats. Did you happen to see a teenage girl working with fan photos while you were there? Do you expect to go to another game soon?

zanderlex : I didn't expect you to see me, especially since you don't know what I look like! I will probably go again soon, but I will NEVER get expensive seats again.

tgags123 :   Ok, did you happen to be one of the people in the stands with the warm looking jackets on? If so, then I might have seen you. It's surprising how people can't decide which person I am in the picture I uplaoded, so I wouldn't really be able to find you even if I did know what you look like.

tgags123 : Why did I not think of that? I can't believe I did not think that people at an Islanders game would be wearing Islanders jersey's!! I was lookig in all the wrong places!

Well I had a recap written up for yesterday's game but I lost it so I will just go based off of memory.

Yesterdays game was a great victory for the Islanders, they beat the Phoenix Coyotes 6-1. A lot of Islanders player got in on the scoring fest, including 2 goals by the Isles captain John Tavares. Defenseman Matt Donovan scored his first National Hockey League goal, and Peter Regin scored his first goal as an Islander.

To make it even better, the New York Rangers lost 9-2 to the San Jose Sharks.

I rarely watch NHL at all but if I did I guess the new york islanders would be my favorite team then. So as of now I am an official New York islander fan so to say.
