Hey all its been a long long time since I have roamed these forums so its time that I update you on my situation. I'm a recovering drug addict and have spent the last 7 months in treatment and a halfway house and its been wonderful to think clear for the first time in ten+ years. The road was a tough one and I made it through it but lets take a step back and tell you a little bit about my story.
My name is Zach I started using drugs and alcohol when I was 8 years old, became a daily user when I was 13 and continued you on from there I have had many setbacks and problems due to this be it complications with my diabetes or overdosing on chemicals. I've attempted suicide at the age of 15 and had my first over dose at the age of 20 on MDMA. Many more have happened since then but thats not the point, the point is I'm working on getting my life better and I'm sharing this in the hope that some addict still suffering might see it. I'm now going to discuss what its like living this way, it's been a wonderful journey and I wouldn't change it for the world. I've learned that life sucks sometimes and bad things happen to good people. I've seen who I really am and what I want to become I've learned to actually feel my emotions and deal with them in a positive manner that will be effective towards my recovery. I'm going to a sober house this Sunday, in Saint Paul Minnesota and I'm excited be the first time I'll be on my own with out a habit that I can't afford. Maybe I'll have some extra cash to buy nice things again. I have made friends in the real world and they don't use me to get high or for money they are real and we have a emotionally intimate relationship, something I thought was unheard of until 6 months ago. I'm going to keep up the good fight and work towards my goals and hang out with the people that mean the most to me. If anyone needs help let me know I can point you towards the right path! Lots of Love DiabeticZach

Oh my god. 8 years old? Wow. I hope you learned from your experiences. Glad to see that you are doing ok and will hopefully not stray down that path again.

Whoa, 8? That is mind boggling. I am 15 and I have never been anywhere near alcohol nor do I ever want to be. Never stray down that road again man. Life is too precious, so be sure to never waste it away on drugs. At least you can say that you learned from your experiences and now as an adult you can look back and say that you will never make that choice again. It can lead to so many different things, alcohol. it is not only powerful, but life changing. This was definitely a shocking read, I hope you can learn from your past experiences and use them to guide you to make better decisions in the future

Your post made me tear up a little.  I actually know of someone who went through almost the very situation you describe, and I know how amazing it is to see such a turn around. You really touched my heart with your story, so thank you for sharing it with us.  I can't ever imagine being hooked on drugs at such a young age, even though I know it happens.

The good news, as you said, is that you realize your mistake! I can't tell you how very happy I am right now, thinking of the positive change you have made, despite how impossible it must have seemed.  Those good friends who care about your health (mental and physical) are the ones you need to keep around! Don't be afraid to let them be your strength when you feel weak, and don't ever hide anything from them no matter how ashamed you might be!  If they are your true friends, they will care about what is right for you, and hiding things from them can do none of you any good.

I really do wish you the best of luck, and I'm so happy I stopped by to read your thread.

God bless!

Please stop taking drugs! They can kill you easily! I hope you learned your lesson and I hope that you can currently think straight!

Thanks for returning and be sure to not take drugs!

But I was very surprised.. At eight years old??? Wow.

Thank God you're ok! I hope you will continue to walk on the path you're on right now in the future! I just stopped using drugs to, and I'm really proud of myself, it took much willpower but I finally made it! I've been clean for three months now and I plan to keep it clean in the future too! I'm so happy for you and that you managed to break free from the drugs!

diabeticzach: Well thank you ^/////^ and congrats to you too you deserve a *virtual high-five* ...I didn't go any program or anything but I was told I was going to do a drug test and I got all freaked out because I didn't want anyone to know about it. I stopped and I was thinking that I should continue using drugs after the test, but I realized that I felt better sober then done in a loooong time, and so I stopped. I changed my phone number, I inactivated my facebook account so I would not have to talk to all the bad people I know. And that's pretty much how I've managed to stay clean, I'm starting in a new school soon and I hope that everything can continue just like this ^-^
