Okay so as the thread title says, do you think guys get carried away when it comes to shoes? I mean seriously, guys at my school are like, I spent 250 dollars on these pair of Nike air Jordan max shoes! I'm just like really? You could've bought something useful like a laptop or something with that money. So some guys take it way too far when it comes to shoes. I normally pay about 40-70 dollars for a good pair of shoes that will last me a long time ad they look cool, but some guys spend like 100-200 dollars on the ugliest pairs of shoes out there, they have a stupid name and they look hideous. A lot of guys in my school are like this, not all, but a lot. They are the same guys that have like 30 pairs of shoes in their closet and they spend all their money on more. This just makes no sense to me, and it is kind of a waste of money when you could get a pair of good shoes for less than half that price. 


So my question to you is, what do you think? Do you think some guys get a little overboard when it comes to shoes?

If this belongs somewhere else, then please feel free to move it, the only reason I put it in the school forum is because a lot of guys at school wear their hideous shoes. 

YES. There are guys at my school who spend $1000+ a year on shoes. It's like a race to see who was the biggest feet. They like them more than girls, it's ridiculous.

I go a little overboard with shoes. I have about 6 pairs and they range from $30 - $130. I like to match my shoes with my outfit. I like having nice shoes, but I will never spend more than $150. I am kind of in the middle I guess.

SheLikesCloth : I was about to say, 1000$ on one pair, but then I realized you said shoes. Yeah I know it is ridiculous, and they wear them to school stupidly enough and when it comes to gym they are like "Oh no I got dirt on my 4000$ nike shoes!! I gotta go home and hose them off! " and I'm just like really?

tgags123 : even still that isn't that bad compared to some guys, they will spend close to a thousand dollars on shoes in just one year as shelikescloth said, it is ridiculous, they could get a variety of other cool things for that much, but instead it is all blown on shoes. I can understand a few nice pairs of shoes every now and then, but blowing every single cent you have just on shoes like every other day? That is just too much and that is what some guys do at my school, I am not even kidding either. 

Yeah not liking how people put all there time into shoes, yet many people I talk to in my class say this is the new era and should try there best to look "in" with fashion, I have to say sometimes I buy those shoes to but I only wear them on weekends, I wear my regular shoes on school days.

Well I'd say yes . In my class people have very expensive shoes and I can see the reason why they clean then on a regular basis and care for them the way they do . But they do not have to do it IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ACTUAL CLASS . They always clean them right in the middle of the class which disrupts the teacher . I would clean it before or after class but not during . So I'd say some people do pay a little too much attention to their shoes Have A Nice Day

At the school where I teach, shoes are a huge 'culture' thing.  I didn't know it seemed to be true with kids from all over the country, but I have to say.... I don't get it.  I mean, most of the kids that attend my school will LITERALLY carry a pair of shoes around the school since they're against dress code policy.... just to show them off.  I never spend more than $20 on a pair of shoes myself, and I own 3 pair.  The newest pair is a year and a half old.

I certainly can't fathom why ANYONE would want to spend $500 on a pair of shoes.  Then again, I've never understood branding at all.  What gets me even more though....

These kids DON'T have jobs.  What kind of parents condone such senseless spending, and then spend their OWN money on something so insanely priced?

I don't understand the kids these days. 200$ for shoes? I wouldn't spend 200 dollars on shoes that would last a life time. I have one pair of shoes, they are leather and ugly and smell like feet but they are my shoes and I will wear them intill they turn to dust. If I had 200 bucks I sure wont be spending it on some cheap shoes with some fancy name on em.

Yeah, they do. Personally, I hate how much people care about there shoes, one of my old friends didn't have a life outside of shoes.  He could always find the worst shoes possible. He has about 20 pairs of them, and they are all some of the worst things I have ever seen.Just don't tell that to him, he will try to beat you up. Notice the word "Try".  He really shouldn't have tried.

I take care of my shoes but I don't go overboard with it. If they get dirt or wear down, let it be. Once in bad condition in just throw them.

It does annoy me when I see a dude like go uber on his shoes, just because a speck of dirt.

Eh, I usually just get about 30 dollar shoes, average ones. But I do not go overboard. I buy one pair ogf shoes for school, that is it.

I know this shoe culture thing existed in places, but I have NEVER seen it personally. I have lived in Kansas my whole life. Most of it on the western end, and the last 6 years on the eastern end. Never seen guys obsess about shoes before. My wife loves shoes. She has a lot. But it isn't brand name or price that she obsesses over. Just what is cute or what fits with outfits for work, or what looks cute and functions for specific situations (like when we went to the Florida Keys over the summer or Costa Rica last summer). But even that baffles me. I have 4 pairs of shoes. 2 are for work or nice occasions, 1 is for non formal everyday, and one is for running/doing labor work. I guess I have 1 pair of sandals, but that was for Costa Rica. 

My god, you don't want to know how much I see this shoe stuff.

Every other corner I turn, I hear someone saying, "LOOK AT MY (insert sport man here) SHOES! I SPENT MORE THAN 300 DOLLARS ON THIS PAIR ALONE!"

Just the other day, I saw one of my friends wearing really expensive looking shoes with freaking wings on them. Like, literally, 3D wings. He said he spent 300 dollars on the shoes, and 150 dollars on buying three sets of wings. Just... What the heck?

It's dumb how shoe companies are ripping people off. And people are falling for it. If you don't have shoes that are younger than six months old, you're auto-shunned.

I find it so strange how many people, boys and girls, spend too much on clothing these days. I think it is ridiculous to pay that much for something that keeps you from cutting your feet when walking in the street! If you want a decent pair of shoes it must feel comfy and actually fit your feet. You may think mentioning fitting your feet just a bit too obvious, well it certainly is not for some. I have seen some cases where girls and sometimes boys buy all of these stylish shoes but in a smaller size than there shoe size because it is cheaper!!

Personally style comes last, though it does play a part in what I buy. I would go for the most comfy shoes (at a reasonable price though) but only if it looks decent just not gold plated, diamond  coated Nike Soccer (though I call it football) shoes!

I know, right? These are getting a little weird when this happens. I only spend 20 U . S. Dollars on my shoes. And some people spend whole loads of money on their shoes. I have no idea why. Isn't this crazy?

I see guys with very expensive shoes all the time and hey bring boxes to school either to sell of to trade with other guys and it is so dumb. I have also noticed that  a lot of Latinos wear like 100 dollar shoes, it is ridiculous. They could spend it on a normal pair of shoes and spend the rest on a good game or save up for a game system or something. I think it is just a waste to put that much focus into one pair of shoes. 


Now there is this one guy in my school offering to tie die socks for 5 dollars, he is such a weenie. Anyways, it is a ridiculous the way things are in my school. What a waste of time on something so dumb. 40-50 dollars on shoes is good enough for a nice pair, nothing extreme because most of the expensive shoes they wear are ugly anyways. 

Yes. Somebody agrees with me on this one. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to get an expensive pair of shoes every once in a while, but every other week is just insane. There is a pair of shoes (Paranormans) that are $3000 shoes if I am not mistaken. And loe and behold, somebody in my school has them. But they were probably fake XD

I don't put any focus into my shoes. I only have one or two pairs I actually use, and then I have a pair of running shoes. That's pretty much it.

I do think that some guys go overboard about their shoes. These days people will do lots of ridiculous stuff to impress other people such as buying very expensive shoes just to look cool.
