http://becauseisaidiwould.com/saveyourvictim/

That link also has the video.
The short and sweet of this is the guy made a video of him confessing, even holding up a written card so he couldnt claim the video was dubbed, admitting he was the cause of a mans death by drink driving. He also said he would plead guilty to whatever charges the prosecution filed.
Whats more he actually turned the video into a plea for people to think about what they are doing when they get behind a wheel drunk. I like the expression "save your victim".
The comments on that site, and youtube where the video is hosted, are quite interesting, with people debating his motives, his morals, his guilt and the purpose of the justice system, in regards to should it be a punishment or a rehabilitation, or simply a detterent, and whether he deserves incarcerations.
Anyway, have a think, hopefully the video will discourage drink driving, especially since iv already seen one individual here mention they had a drink drive crash. Here is what could have happened buddy.

Save Your Victim

Update (23rd oct)

He was convicted and sentenced to 6 years, unsurprisingly.

Aw, poor guy. I know it was wrong, but how he confessed instead of ignoring it like others would was sweet. The law should go a bit easier on him for not making the police track him down, and for being so sweet.

With so many DUI's and drunk driving deaths, why are bars still open? Wait don't answer that, because the thousands or possibly millions of different answers that the question generates is the reason why nothing ever changes. Everywhere that I see debate on current issues, I also see gridlock. Did this guy do the right thing by making a video confession? I have an opinion but I won't share it because all that would happen is someone would come along with a supercharged opposing opinion and...gridlock. I'll let the legislators handle it because that's what they do, sometimes despite the wishes of the majority of their constituents. Of course, somebody will come along and make some comment about that opinion as well...the whole thing is pointless...

Does this video discourage drunk driving? Maybe for a few dozen random people. Maybe out of those people, one of them would have taken a life in this manner. So, 1-2 lives were saved. It's a start.

goodboy :
They already had him as their main suspect because they detained him at the scen e, they just hadnt charged him yet..in any crime they gather their evidence before charging someone. If i went up to a guy on live tv and shot him itd probably be days before i was charged, desite being arrested immediately.
Its the same deal here, he was probably due to be charged in a few days/weeks.
Normally They can enter a plea bargain, which means they agree with the prosecutors to plead guilty, and in return they drop some charges or dont press for the maximum sentence. This guy has no cards to play though because he has mase an airtight confession of guilt.

thephantombrain :
You need to start somewhere, if even 1 victim is saved from their fate then he has made a diference.
I think thatd make a good dont drink and drive advert, the ones here are ok and certainly shocking, but its impact is limited knowing it isnt real.

thenumberone: I know. They had to gather some evidence first. Although, if I were a criminal (which I'm not, trust me ), I would have ran for it, no matter how much my life was on the line. I realize that he's going due to be charged.

And, yeah, if they plead guilty, they make the sentence lighter. If he pleaded not guilty and the jury called him guilty anyways, he'd be hit on hard with the gavel.

I really admire this guy! He runs some one over when he's drink driving, the he's confessing to the whole Internet. If it was me he had run over I wouldn't want him to be punished, I think he has learned his lesson already. I really hope that his confession will change many peoples view of drink driving, it's not dorky to be smart!

He never ran him over, he hit the guys car head on.
The guy was killed, and there has to be a consequence from that.
