I usually use spotify when I am not using my iPod to do the same task. On spotify you can listen to almost every single song created on regular mode and a few exclusive songs on premium. Everything is free on the regular version but it still comes at the cost of adverts being scattered around the app and adverts every roughly 20 minutes of music.
Spotify also has an offline mode so that you can use it just like you would use Windows Media player and of course there are no adverts. I hardly ever use this since most of my music is on another computer with iTunes.

I use WinAmp because they have good radio stations and there is a plug in where I can rip each song from the radio stations into mp3 files that I can put onto my mp3 player.  If I am only interested in a certain group I'll go onto Groove Shark.

For videos I'll go onto youtube.  *Shrugs*

I think it had the best sound, interface, lots of plugins, skins, etc.

I don't use a lot of programs in general for listening to music. I never really got into iTunes like a lot of other people did in my family and around the globe! I use off downloaders on my android phone and listen to music that way! I also use a couple of radio services like I Heart radio and Pandora Music.

It used to be Winamp, but I can't deal with unsupported software (they closed their doors December 20th last year ). Of course, if I'm on the go with my iPod, I haven't really got a choice but to use the inbuilt unnamed software.

Also the original Half - Life games do the same trick. When there is a point in the game where there is not music it will find audio files on your computer and play them, even if it is a CD. This scared me at first because I thought I was being hacked (I was connecting to a server that time) but no it is a good feature and strangely it is one of the places where I listen to the most of my music.

I've been looking into MediaMonkey and it looks better than any other software I've used. It supports more filetypes and does everything else that iTunes does. It has realplayer functions too by converting file formats too. I'm getting it right now to see whether this one program can replace multiple programs.

Pandora is to find new artists.

Once I finish getting my cds ripped onto here, it'll probably be VLC, with a little bit of pandora.
