That has happened to me once before. I don't remember exactly what happened but I got that same error you did. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the thread got closed while you were replying to it.

Yeah this happens to me all of the time and sometimes for to different reasons. One might be where I have a post ready and when I want to submit, the site might be down and I try pressing reply a few times until the site comes back up and then it will show up saying the thread doesn't exist but my post still goes through successfully. Other times I might have it open and then reply and I can't becose it gets closed by a mod. It happens, it isn't a big deal though. It is one post and if it doesn't go through, I am sure I can find something else to reply to. So yes it happens, but it isn't really a big deal to me if ig doesn't go through.

If it was locked it would of said it was locked, but if it was deleted it should of said that, which it did. So my guess is the fact its been deleted.
