The title says it all. What do you think is the most overrated sport? To start off, Hockey isn't TOO popular, which is sad because the athletes who play it work hard. But my answer:I would have to say Football. I like the sport, it's VERY popular, and is pretty straight forward.  But to say, Football takes away the fame of the other good sports like Lacrosse and Hockey. But the most underrated sport of all the choices on this poll:Lacrosse. What do you guys think?

I'm also going with football. It's the sport I hear people talk about the most even though not much goes on in that sport compared to other sports like baseball. I find football the most boring sport to watch but I LOVE watching baseball.

Football is way overrated, everyone talks about it and I think it is kind of boring to watch. Plus it is mostly played in america, I like soccer because it is world wide and very popular in lots of places. I also like hockey even though it has been a while since I've watched it on tv. But I agree, the players work hard and the sport takes skill and accuracy. Plus you have to have good movement and coordination. For football you can be 200 lbs and 6'2" and have good coordination and strength and you qualify. I just think more skilled sports like hockey are underrated and not watched as much because of football. So that is my opinion on the matter.

Razor-987 : Sad to say, I was bullied by a person who plays Football ALL THE TIME. He's SO annoying, and funny thing:On a homeowrk sheet back in fourth grade where we write words that have a line of symmetry going through them, he wrote all names of sports that don't have a line of symmetry going through them. xD

What do I think is the most overrated sport?, Well I think the most overrated sport is football because it is so main stream and I generally find it boring and hard to get into unless I am playing. And to me I find football incredibly hard to watch on television and to get actively involved in watching. 

Football. I enjoy it, play it, but, really. EVERYONE talks about it, and all the competitions. EVEN the Super Bowl. Even the gamers even more hardcore than me talk about it, when they really don't even care. It proves that two men hugging on the grass is awesome! 

PixelBrick : haha your story is funny, football players are such bullies and they think they are macho tough because they play it. I just think that football hogs up all of the attention from other sports and it becomes the most popular sport and all of the other ones are forgotten. That is what I think. There are other sports that require more skill and are more fascinating to watch than a bunch of apes tackling each other. Yet it is the most popular in america. I like soccer, I like the game itself plus it isn't just a sport played in america. It is played worldwide. That is why it is in the olympics and football is not, because more people and more countries play it, whereas america would be the only country that is good at it giving us an unfair advantage. That is why it is not an olympic sport like soccer.

Football has to be the most overrated sport in the history of sports! It's a fun sport to play and watch but when people talk about it nearly all day just wants me to crazy. No other sport can be more overrated than this one.

What I find funny is how you said you would be crazy to pick hockey, but not lacrosse. Hockey is at least broadcast, mainstreamed, and even has annual video games made. Has anyone ever played a lacrosse game? Has any person living in the US ever seen a professional lacrosse game on TV? Does anyone living in the US know the name of a professional lacrosse player without using the Internet? Hockey gets way more attention than lacrosse.

I picked other because I think all mainstream sports are severely overrated. I can't choose just one. Now, I will say that football and basketball have the most annoying fans, no doubt. They are the ones who seem to be the most 'in your face' and ridiculous about the sport. But any mainstream sport is equally overrated simply for being a sport that have so many people who make such a big deal about teams that they are not even a part of and most people don't even know personally.

rcarter2 : Does college Lacrosse count as being shown on TV? I've seen some games on TV, but I can't watch it for too long or I'm not paying 100% attention. My high school did have a lacrosse team and they played against other high schools that had lacrosse teams; but it was usually only the bigger, larger high schools that could afford a lacrosse team.

Sadly your professional lacrosse player example is true. I'm willing to bet more people know who Joey Chestnut is then any professional lacrosse player or the name of a professional team for that matter.

Oldschool41 : I don't think college counts in lacrosse's case since it isn't typically a regular thing that happens all around the country. College basketball and football is shown around the country pretty much as the professional level. Lacrosse isn't even hyped enough around here to have a single station keeping track of some professional level season and show the games.

Basketball.  It's a game full of guys who flop, guys who travel, the rules are so subjective (worse than football).  Guys scream and yell during plays and argue.  There's no "team" in basketball with only a few exceptions.  A team can have one great player and four other guys and still win.  Took at NCAA-aged Carmelo Anthony.  Basketball is a hoax, a shame, and a waste of time.  I can't understand it's popularity except for people who like the individual.  It's a selfish sport.

I can't stand it.  I don't get the hype.  The NBA is fixed anyway.

I think that basketball is the most overrated by a long shot. I don't know why people think football is overrated?

I'm gonna say other, and say that Golf is the most overrated sport.  You swing a club for about a minute in the whole day and just stand around for a while.

Golf, hands down its golf, there's nothing more boring than golf and its pretty sad that the fans cant even cheer while the action is going on, they have to wait till the player is done hitting the ball to cheer for them, what a joke.

I think football is the most overrated sport EVER. I mean come on, they earn more money than doctors...
