What was your first cd/cassette? What genre did it fall under? Were your parents ok with you buying it?

I can not really remember.
"Nirvana" (Smells like teen Spirit.)
"Rob Zombie" (Astrocreep.)
"Live" (Throwing Copper.)
"Metalica" (Black.)
"Green Day" (Dookie.)
"Bush" (Machine Head.)
......................
One of those was my first C.D. While I am certain it was Nirvana I can not rally remember.
It could have been "The Offspring" Or "Pearl Jam". For all I know.
"Alice in Chains" is another that comes to mind.
"Areosmith", or "Jimi Hindrix" could have been my first ones as well.
With M.T.V. having music videos and Radio actually playing some good rock?
I have no idea.
I could not tell you what my first tape cassette or record was either.
Music was always apart of my life.
I can tell you that I never had an 8-track tape. Till I was in my late teens though.
Good Question.
Good Times.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. stick a fork in me.
Peace.

I actually forget what my first CD was, to be honest. While I can't think too far back, I believe it may have been HELP! by, who else, The Beatles.
I more or less regret it now though, since I don't like The Beatles anymore.

Ha ha ha  I actually still have my first CD in my footlocker and it is Britney Spears' Oops I Did It Again. My mom just randomly bought it for me when I was in like 5th grade or something and I sadly listened to and sang from it a lot. But, I had a Meat Loaf cassette way before I had it.

My very first CD was a Japanese CD imported from Japan. It is called Gigabanana the Best Norishio. I got it for my birthday this year, and I really enjoyed it.

Well, from the library, it was one of Garth Nix's audiobooks from the Keys to the Kingdom series. One that I actually bought, though, was Evanescence's The Open Door. I don't think they know who that band really is... I tend to skip the more questionable songs on it. I wasn't aware of how... iffy... some of their lyrics are.

I really have no idea what my first CD or cassette was, but I think it was a cassette of some type. The first CD I remember buying was a pre-owned Drum & Bass compilation with artists like 808 State and such, I think I was 6 or 7 years old. When I was young I never really bought any music myself, it was mostly my parent's old tapes or kid music they'd get me. But after I got a turntable in my room when I was about 10 or 11 years old I started to collect cheap vinyl (mostly 45's). I don't pick up CDs very often, I mostly get new releases on vinyl because it's totally RAD.

The first album I ever bought was 311 when I was around 14 and my parents did not know.  They would have been mad as it is secular music. Before that I would record songs off the radio that I liked onto cassette.

My first CD was "Goo" by Sonic youth. I didn't buy it. It came with the second hand cd-player. My  first cassette was "Use your Illusion I" by Guns n roses. The latter one was bought to me by grandma so I guess my parents were okay with that too.

I cant remember what did I buy all by myself first.
