When People make comparisons from one game to describe another..
It kinda bothers me.
Am I the only one?

Take for example Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
Yes they are both fighting games.
No they are not the same experience.
So, Why Compare them?

I often get annoyed when People mention every other R.P.G. and say it is just like Final Fantasy When Final Fantasy Keeps Changing its combat system into a new animal with nearly each game.

I also get bothered when every action Platformer is compared to Devil May Cry.
Yes, I am Guilty of it too, like everyone, but shouldn't there be alternative terms to use or standardized terms to make use of other than a previous game that others have played?

Imagine if people said that C.O.D. was just another Doom. (Thankfully that issue is cleared up by the term "F.P.S." BUT still.)

If I use the term "3.D." ? Everyone pictures a clunky Blocky Graphic engine like the Virtua Game Series.
Any Solutions to this mess?

I thought about writing a review of Ninja Gaiden 3 for the X-Box and I kept referencing Devil May Cry Without the Slow Sand Flesh Mummies or without the Devil Trigger. Etc, Etc, Etc. Without, Without, Without.

Then I realized "It's not the same ball park. Not even the same Sport." (Pulp Fiction Quote.)
It is an interesting question to pose to the public on this matter because I hate making comparisons rather than actually talking about the game and experience I had.

So, I give it to you guys.
Should we dare to compare?
OR
Get rid of that rubbish unless we think the game is crap and should die by comparison?

orionfoxgibson : It's like when people think Minecraft is like Terraria. They're REALLY different, and some cases with stuff like Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and Ni No Kuni, they say it's the same because they're both RPG's. But if you were to see the game difference, you would just laugh.

I've seen this firsthand not that long ago when I read a post about a person asking if they would like Borderlands 2 and people instantly started comparing it to a bunch of other games, and then other people would come along, say the previous descriptions were totally wrong, and then offer a bunch of different comparisons. Sure games are going to have some similarities, but that doesn't mean we can compare them to each other. Even games in the same series can change drastically to the point where it's hard to compare them to each other. So I agree, I think that it'd be far easier to just stop doing that. For one thing if a person hasn't played one of the games you're using as a comparison they're not going to get the majority of what you're saying, which makes the whole thing pointless. :/

So yes I agree wholeheartedly. There has to be a better way to go about things, especially when most of the comparisons that are made are completely off base.

I do think people compare games to other games way too much. I myself do it and I don't even realize I'm doing it because it's a regular habit for me now. My friends do it too much as well, a lot more than me. For example, every time one of my friends plays Wii Sports with me and something stupid happens he starts comparing it to real baseball and it really irritates me.
