Errr... Jeez... Starting this out alone's gonna be tough... This movie... Is a sort of unique brand. A kind of movie that you really have to see to believe what it holds. Trust me, I'm not gonna put any ending spoilers in unless you want them, but... Let's just see what we got to work with...

We start off with the mane 6 getting off of the train to the Crystal Kingdom and getting themselves settled down for a meeting about Twilight's new responsibilities as a princess, taking place after the season 3 finale. That night, a former student of Celestia, Sunset Shimmer, steals Twi's crown and jumps into a magic mirror to another world. After brief exposition about how Sunset was a greedy pony and didn't get what she wanted as Tia's student, she jumped into the portal to make her own life there. After a explanation that Twi has to go in alone to "preserve the balance of that universe", she and soon Spike jump in, only to find that this "alternate universe"... Is our own! Good ol' suburbia! Or rather, a bit later, we find that it's more like the Doug universe due to everyone having multicolored skin. This is where I find the film's first big hole. Practically every pony is in that world with her. So is that what Tia meant by preserving the balance? It looked like every pony jumped in before her, and Twilight was just last. Heck, they even have the same names! Fluttershy's still Fluttershy, Luna's still Luna, etc. It's not a big issue, it just stuck me as a bit off.

Anyway, after Twi finds Shimmer and tells her off for bullying Fluttershy, and after re-enacting their first meeting from the very first episode of the show, mind you... She said she had found the crown and turned it over to Principal Celestia.(See what I mean by same names?) She says that it'll be given to the princess of the "Fall Formal". Twilight then goes to the party planner, who is Pinkie, to sign up. *Sighs* Another big problem for me, but why do the characters look like a Barbie doll could beat them at arm wrestling? Everyone there's so skinny, even most of the boys. Plus, I still can't get over why they're all multi-colored like their pony coat colors! I swear I really got sucked into the Doug universe of the future!

Anyway, aside from that mini-rant, she meets the other 3 people over time; Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash; and finds that they used to be good friends until they split up for multiple reasons, soon realizing they all lead back to Shimmer, who all this time had also sabotaged Twilight's chances of getting votes for the crown. Twilight's friends decide to to help get back her votes through disbanding separation at what they're good at(Jocks, nerds etc.)... Through song. Yes, there's songs in this movie, 6 of them total, but hey, at least they beat out High School Musical in terms of quality. *Eye twitch* What's that? Need another song? Just wait another few minutes. Literally, there's another song within minutes of that one, while the votes are being cast. It certainly doesn't beat out HSM in frequency, does it?

By the way, they decided to be edgy and include a love interest between a student named Flash Sentry and Twilight. Yeah, after, say, a few minutes of screen time together? Granted they share a few scenes together as well, but it feels rushed a bit. Like they could've been given more time to talk or something. Heck, even time-lapse it. I don't know, it just could've been more developed instead of just sudden "love at first sight" stuff.

So the night of the formal arrives after some clearing up by Flash about Snips and Snails(Yes, Trixie's henchmen. They just love trying to be accepted, don't they?) demolishing the gym's decorations and having Shimmer frame Twilight. They tally the votes and Twi wins, big shock. The crown's given to her and Spike is dognapped by the henchmen, with none of the other cardboard characters noticing, just smiling as usual, as Twilight gives chase to them. Outside, Shimmer's waiting to destroy the portal if they don't give the crown to her, but after talking it out, Spike runs back to them after Shimmer lets him go. After a fiasco of a fight for the crown, Shimmer puts it on and turns into... I won't say, it's a bit silly and it'd be a spoiler. The Elements awaken in the 6 friends after a last attack on Twilight, giving them their trademark looks and wings(But not horns, weird) and such, and pull of the Elemental beam on Shimmer, defeating her and showing her the error of her ways. After a last dance with Flash, Twi's ready to go back home before the portal closes for 30 moons(or months, whatever floats you), and get the crown back safely. After one last attempt to get in a FlashXTwilight moment as ponies, they movie ends with an ascension to the sky, leaving Twilight more confident in her duties a as new princess.

This movie... Wow. To be honest, I... I expected way worse. Though to be fair, this was gonna be independent of the show anyway, and this was just yet another attempt to make more money on soon-to-be toys based on the movie. But if you take out ant connection with MLP and based this as a true independent movie... You'd find that there's way worse than this. I mean, it's enjoyable to watch sometimes, the fitting in thing must've been a wave to the first ever episode of FiM, and if you developed the relationship with Flash and Twilight a bit more, took out half the songs, and basically made it about fitting into a new place instead of about magical good vs. evil... You'd have yourself a nice little teen flick you'd want to watch over again, at least once or twice. Could it do better? Yeah, it could, but it could've been way worse. So what if the characters were thin and had different colored skin, so what if there were some never explained things? You wouldn't have to worry if it was just a cartoon teen flick about fitting in, which it has the possibility to be. It just feels like the pilot of a new series, which I'm sure would've done semi-well independently. So overall, out of 10... I'd give it a 7. It could've done a bit more with the romance development and a bit less with the good vs. evil stuff, as is usual with this show's fights, and could've made it about a new girl trying to fit in a different place along with getting back what was stolen from her. Isn't that how it goes for people at a new school anyway, trying to fit in while the bully just makes it tough on you for it?

But, to sum up, it's simply a good movie that doesn't deserve ALL the hate it's been given before its release. Some things are worth complaining about, but there's some good things about it too, like the acting, writing, even the animation looked neat, despite the characters' appearance. Give it a watch and look for them, and you'll see what I mean. This isn't a bad movie, it just needed some more development and stuff like that, so give it a watch on Youtube if you can or buy it. It'll at the very least be worth it.

I actually thought this movie was gonna be bad, with all the hate it was getting before release, but one I saw it I thought it was pretty good. Of course it could use some fixes in some bits, and the songs are pretty frequent, but to me at least they didn't sound so bad, some were even pretty catchy. Also, about the color thing, I like to think it's not really our universe, but an in between universe between Equestria and Earth, so it's not so weird. In my conclusion, it was not as bad as people thought it would be, but I would not a perfect movie, as it had a bit of flaws. In overall, if I had to rate it that is, I would give it a 7.5/10. But just my opinion.

Yeah, I'm seeing a bunch of people bringing up the colors aspect I mentioned too.

I'm sorry about that, but "Doug" was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw multicolor-skinned people in a cartoony, skinny universe. It just fit ^^;

Oh well, again, I still found the movie good and neat to watch.

Mostly i thought this movie was going to be bad. Mainly becuase they betrayed the main character and turned them into humans. But it turned out better than i have expected. Ever though the 6 mane were humans, they still had there personality. And i should expected that spike was going to be a dog. I still laugh till this day. Its just hirlauous. So anyway great movie. Even if i wasn't in it. 

Yeah, still, it's just something fun to watch to pass the tine. ^^

One question, though? Should this stay here or be moved to the movies forum? I think it's good here.

I actually really liked it :o. I love how they referenced "yay", and all the characters were hilarious as humans, for example: "The great and powerful Trixie needs some peanut butter crackers!"

I think what some people forget to realize is that this is still a franchise that has a fan base of young females.. In this regard I believe that the reason they all kept their pony skin colour is for people to easily transfer their knowledge of the characters from the show... also.. You can tell it's a child's movie at heart but it throws in references that adults can get... plus it also includes shout outs and answers some questions... like DJ Pon3 aka Vinyl scratch eye colour....

I mean they even added derpy in so that's a huge shout out.. Well for the 4 seconds she scrolled upwards in the credit anyways lol

I watched the movie not too long ago and didn't know what to expect this movie for me turned out great and I really enjoyed it and had a great time I'm sure some people here would agree with me

Well, I actually saw the movie 1 hour ago for the second time, Equestria Girls is definitely a movie that I would watch over and over again, in my opinion the movie is AMAZING, I don't know if my opinion on this movie is because of the fact that this movie broadcasted on TV exactly two weeks ago (october 13th, sunday) and I was excited since tuesday in that week, I really didn't had ANY negative throughs about the movie before watching it myself, and that probably explains why I really like it...the movie is really awesome but of course, it's not perfect... one of the (minor) flaws of the movie is, just like 1sam234 said, the fact that the relationship between Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry was just love at first sight, but, that's only 1 small complain, the movie is REALLY entertaining, every song from the movie is awesome and there is some variety here and there (the background music is good as well), the movie is REALLY funny and it has so many hilarious moments, the voice acting is really good (Carla Castañeda is awesome...she is the person who does the latin spanish voice of Twilight Sparkle), the animation is (as usual) awesome and smooth and every character that changes in the movie has the same personality of it's respective pony counterpart...so, yeah, the movie is really good to me, maybe 9.5 out of 10 or something like that...
