Seeing as this Forum has no "search function"(so if there is a duplicate of this I do apologize and before its pointed out, I am too lazy to google it), I would like to ask what the Board policy is with respect to bumping old threads(aka necroing). If there isn't one, I would like to suggest one be created and added to the Forum rule list. Since I joined a few days ago, I've asked local mods on whether there was a rule against bumping old threads(aka a necro rule). I was told by one that there isn't one but to refrain from bumping old Game Review threads. I thanked the local moderator for the reply but to me that was an unsatisfactory answer since it means some parts of the Forum are moderated more strictly than other parts of the Forum and what qualifies as an "old thread"?. If you leave it on the basis of subjectivity, your going to have chaos and a lot of issues on this matter. In other words, it leaves forum moderation to be of the discretion of the moderator in charge and frankly that is an issue I have a problem with(how does one know the moderator is abusing their power and how does one know they're violating the rules).

On many Forums I am apart of, there IS a necro rule and it is DEFINED in detail as to what a necro post is. Here it is currently not the case(as far as I know) and therefore I would like to propose that this issue be defined in the Forum rules section so as to not cause confusion. I would suggest that a necro post be any post made 6 months after the last post was made. It could be shortened to say 3 months but generally I consider 6 months to be a more than fair inflection point in what is old and what isn't. Doing this will help all forum users, new and old, know what threads can be posted in, and what threads can't be(excluding threads that have been closed of course). Its either that, or moderators need to be on the ball in closing old threads and having been one in the past, I can tell you mods don't want to be closing threads on a daily basis.

I know of no written rule, but we ask that you don't post in threads that haven't been posted in for a few months, and that applies to all forums.

So what is a few months? 2-3? I know I am being a bit nit-picky but having been a moderator on another Forum, I've had immature trolls who necro'd pulling this crap on me and trust me its not a lot of fun being a moderator when rules are not spelled out in detail since trolls will use this as an excuse to see what the boundaries are. I would much rather have the boundaries be defined than be subjective is really what I am getting at.

If you even take the time to read the last post in the thread you can clearly see what month, year, and day it was posted on rules are rules no matter who you are you should follow them.

austipokedude : I know that. But as I said in my last post, the rule for bumping old threads is unwritten and is henceforth subjective to each moderators own prerogative. That means one moderator might consider an old thread to be 2 weeks while another might consider it to be 2 months. You can't have such a discrepancy among Forum staff, otherwise its going to cause problems. That is WHY I am advocating a universal definition for what an old thread is(like a thread that was last posted in 3 months ago). Explicit exceptions can be made for certain boards for example but a general rule of thumb should be that after a certain point, threads shouldn't be posted in and right now that is not listed anywhere in the Newbie section. If I am wrong, please do link me to it.

Why not have a function that "closes" old threads?  We had when I moderated for Gameforge...When the mods determined that a thread was finished (their criteria, their decision), they CLOSED IT, and no one could then post in it again, no matter how much time had passed.  The members would have to open a new thread to engage other members on a similar discussion, but couldn't open the old.

Would that suffice in this situation?  (Just curious...)

Cuurious : Well, there is. When a thread has not been posted in for a year+, it auto-closes.
