It doesn't really matter which one you play first from a story standpoint. If you want one that's more puzzle based, go with Oracle of Ages. For a more action based game, go with Oracle of Seasons. 

My opinion, though, is that Oracle of Ages is better.

Personally, I think that you should play Oracle of Ages first! Although I believe each games picks up where the last one left off, so you won't get the story mixed up. Both are very solid Game Boy games!

Oracle of Ages is probably the best starting point since Ages focuses alot more on the puzzles in the game.
I don't think the order you play them matters though as long as you play both of them you should be fine I suppose.
They are better as a whole in my opinion.

I would play ages first and don't forget to use your transfer codes after you beat the first, you get some really cool upgrades and an addition to the story line.
