I can't use the f4 button to load the state in my games, when i do it comes up with a window that gives me options to a second screen, but never to load the game.
I'm on windows 8 Toshiba.

Do your F keys also have a picture on them? For example, brightness settings, fast forward/rewind/play functions, etc? If so, you should notice an 'fn' key on the bottom row of your keyboard. You need to the hold that key when you push F2 and F4 to save and load.

Depending on which emulator you are using (the ones that use plugins or the ones that don't)... I generally just click in the center of the game screen until a menu pops up and click "save" then from there, I go back to the game and click in the center until it brings up some menu again and click "load".

Seems to work just fine for me when using JAVAboy... not sure if you can do the same thing with the plugins.

But i think the problem you are having is you are not holding the FN *function key* next to the windows button. our F keys have 2 functions, just pressing one without FN activates the effect, and holding FN AND pressing an F key activates the key.
So hold FN next to the windows button.
