http://rt.com/usa/justice-department-admits-spying-228/

"There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters. These records potentially reveal communications with confidential sources across all of the news gathering activities undertaken by the AP during a two-month period, provide a road map to AP's news gathering operations, and disclose information about AP's activities and operations that the government has no conceivable right to know."
-Gary Pruitt, President, Associated Press

Not only does it appear the DoJ use national security as a pretext to violate reporter source confidentiality, it appears the ambitious Assistant US Attorney who served the subpoena did not obtain authorization from the Attorney General or exhausted all other sources, as required by statute, before demanding the AP turn over its records.

unsurprising, the us spys on everyone. it was one of the last western nations to stop censoring the media afterr ww2 and still exercises a large degree of control over it.
on the other hand I find this quite amusing, in the uk the media were busted for hacking peoples phones and email, this is somewhat poetic justice.
I hope they remember how it feels before they do such things

thenumberone :
Where do you get your information?
You do not seem to be well informed to me.

Thanks for the info "Dingobaby12".
I find it odd that the press actually uncovered this news.
Did they reveal a source?
I am looking at the report now.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

all nations ran censorship durring ww2 but most stopped at the end of the war.
due to the cold war the usa kept it going for years after it.

thenumberone :
Now you are "reaching".
Take the "J.F.K." case for example.
After that event.
No one could possibly censor any truth because the american public was hungry for it.
Real life events shape our lives.
Not fiction.
And as for books?
What books are you reading?
"Mark Twain" said something about people with the wrong books having no advantage over the man who can not read them.

Even today the truth gets out. Regardless of your massive censorship idea.

This is news and I would like more info on the news if you do not mind.
Thank you.
