I was having a conversation with another user and this question came to my mind. Would you rather want to die a painful death but be known as a hero, or would you rather die a quick and painless death, but be insignificant to the world? Don't forget to explain why as well. I find this an interesting topic and I'd like to know why you would choose that answer.

I would rather die quick and painlessly. I am not a fighter, nor could I in any way ever be a hero. That is something I accept. I also would not like to be known as a hero - it's just not... me.

A good question.
I mean It definitely is a hard question.
Too die a hero is to die honorably in some countries.
I myself would like a quick and painless death as I am just  a small part of this world.

I would rather die quick and painless, I have no interest in being known as a hero for my deeds. Even if I had done something worthy of being called a hero, I would reject the title. If I was to die I would do so as myself, and nothing else.

I'd rather just die and not be a hero because if I was a hero I'd be very popular and instead of just upsetting my family and friends that I died, I'd be upsetting a lot more people.

Like a Hero.

Yeah, It would be a painful death I know... But, It'll be worth it, I guess. If it's on the defense of the a Country/World/Universe.

I think I would rather die a hero. I have done a lot of crappy things in my life, and can never do enough to make up for what I have done. Maybe if I die a hero, it will give me a good name when I die. Sure, it might be painful, and I can never undo my wrong doings, but still, if I can do a good thing to save somebody else, it might atone for what I have done.

I would honestly rather die a regular person. Wanting the title of hero after your death really is a self absorbed desire. Besides, this Earth will have an end. Humans will have an end. Despite what science fiction tells you, we will not just be able to leave this planet and find another one when ours is close to gone. Nothing heroic you do will ever change that. So in the large scheme of things, the heroic deed you did is insignificant anyway. Besides. In most cases, being the hero to one group of people means you have to be the villain to another group. I would rather just experience life, since it is the only one I get.

I would love to be a hero, so I would rather be a hero and die slowly and painfully. This is especially if I could save a life. I even had a dream about doing such. Just the feeling that you did good would be wonderful and worth dying for.

MoblinGardens : I would just rather die a in a fast and painless way instead of being known as a hero. Why? Because it's impossible for me to look like a big hero in the world and even if I do have a chance of having an honorable death, I wouldn't care because if your already dead then who cares about the world. (It sounds pretty funny but it's still true though)

I much rather die as a normal person than a hero, mostly you won't experience it because you'll be dead, but not just that, but I rather go quick and painless.

I'd rather die the hero (although I much prefer to be considered the out law vigilante anti hero). I would rather die a hero because my legacy would be for ever be told and pasted down from generation to generation about the heroics I've done which resulted in my death.

This is a very interesting question that you asked and both sides have their own benefits to them as well.

If I were to die a long drawn out death as a Hero, it would of course mean that I had done some great heroic thing that made either the lives of the many better or hurt the lives of the oppressors. This sounds all good, of course there is always the possibility of your story being distorted, changed or simply becoming forgotten over time. Of course that risk of to the tale is counter acted by the fact that by simply having a heroic death is enough to inspire change in people and may very well lead to change in the world as a whole.

On the other hand there is the death of a plain normal man, which while lacking the simple raw power of a hero has its merits as well, for if you die a hero that implies that there is a villain as well, be it that the villain is chasing you or you simply get caught in a botched up raid or something similar it all ends up with the same cause of you likely being oppressed or hunted for long time before the death, this simply all reduces down to the death of a hero starting as early as many painful weeks before the actual death as compared to the simple man's quick death that changes nothing.

I suppose that given the choice between them it would all depend simply on the environment of the world and how my death would affect it, if my death would destabilize the world in a positive direction there is no doubt that I would choose the hero's death, however if it would lead to the world  spiraling downward I very decisively choose a death that is quaint and quick.

this may sound very strange but I wouldn't like to die a quick painless death. nor would I want to die a very painful death. but rather to die an unknown hero and a little painful. I like being unknown. and pain.... pain is easy to ignore. I also like helping people.
