As most of you probably know, George Lucas sold his company to Disney last year. Soon after, Disney announced they would be filming a new Star Wars movie and a lot of jokes began about Leia being the newest Disney Princess.

Disney just announced today that they are shutting down LucasArts Entertainment, the video game division of the franchise, noting poor sales of recent games and saying they plan to change the business model for other companies to develop games instead, "achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games."

One big stinger is that one game, Star Wars 1313, was in development that is likely now scrapped, upsetting several fans.

But who know, maybe this will be a smart move and some even better, more amazing games will be released by 2014!

Or maybe if we are lucky, less games based off movies. Very few are any good, and is alienating the younger generations with what games truly are.

tails the fox :   Well, I have played several great video games based off of movies, and the title is enough to draw people in, but I agree that being locked into a theme can make it harder to create something great... especially when it's approximately the 70th game for the series.

Besides... in the past the reverse occurred instead: if someone created a game with great reception, then they would try to make a TV series out of it! lol

Well, I can't say that I didn't see this coming. But my big question, is what will happen to the Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones series? I don't want Disney making those games.

I am still getting over this and I sure hope that they make the movie NC-17 so I will not get to see it. I think it will be just trash. I hope they make a new star wars game soon enough.

Barathemos : I think there are far too many Star Wars games. I prefer to just stick with Super Star Wars, and that's about it. I have played some of the more recent stuff, but it hasn't felt 'gamey' enough.

Yeah, I am sad to see them go. I really like Star Wars: Pod Racing Episode 1 for the Nintendo 64, and I am currently playing Lego Star Wars: The Complete Story... Saga.. Whichever one it is with my sister.
