Maybe its just how the game was designed?
To give a little challenge to the player, there are a few places in game you can take short cuts to beat the tricky races.
But using them was never really my thing
Unless I was playing against friends then I would do it just to bug them lol

I've never noticed a cheating playing in this one. Usually, from what I notice, different people do good at random times. Which character do you use? And is this when you are in first, or behind? I've noticed that in the SNES one that if you are Toad, she will drop about 20 orange mushrooms though.

Too bad. There is meant to be challenge in a game and you shouldn't complain about it.

partyawesome : thats because peach is the fastest and lightest character in the game   If you cant handle a little challenge then you just cant win or beat a video game for shame man

It's funny that you would mention Peach as the cheater, because I've never had that problem. It's possible that I played as her when I played Mario Kart 64, though. I'm afraid I don't remember all that well, but when I do play, it always has everything beaten and unlocked.

On a side (yet somewhat relative) note, I had that problem with Luigi. I'd get into first place and he'd pummel me with good items just before the finish line, and then he'd pass me up! It made me so mad! So I played Mario Tennis. But again, same problem: I'm stuck when you play doubles with Mario and Luigi and can't seem to beat them! Luigi always manages to volley anything I send over there! So I've determined that Luigi is secretly out to get me in every game. And so far, may it be those two or a new game, like Mario Party or anything where I'm against Luigi, I always lose. I tell this to my friends, and they all say, "No, he's not out to get you. You're being silly!" Until they play with me. Then, when he targets me with his fifth item of the board on Mario Party or holds off tossing red shells until I'm the one in front of him, they say, "Oh, you're right....that's really strange." So it's not specific to Mario Kart, but I do understand the feeling.

This cannot go in game discussion if you are literally going to call a piece of coding a cheater. If she beats you, suck it up. Its not the end of the world and you shouldn't call her the problem. I have beaten peach tons of times as a child, she isn't a cheater.
