I last posted here about 5 years ago, so I'll list my new current top 5 anime in no particular order.

- Code Geass
- Hunter x Hunter (2011)
- Stein's Gate
- Mob Psycho
- Naruto (including Shippuden but not Boruto)

Some other standouts I've watched recently were Vinland Saga, Monster, and Pluto and all of them were excellent.

I listed Naruto because while I realize it has its share of flaws, like being 40% filler and incessant flashbacks in every episode recounting events that happened not 2 minutes before, in the last 2-3 years, I've really missed it. I started Naruto while I was in high school back in 2012-2013 and binged it until I caught up and had to wait for new episodes weekly.

Even though I didn't start when the show first aired in 2002, I still became heavily invested just following an anime of that length for 4-5 years. The concept, story, abilities, cool villains, OSTs, and the amount of good arcs all made it an experience I look back on with fondness. It's a shame that I have no interest in Boruto at all (somehow I got about 110 episodes in before throwing in the towel). I felt like I gave it a fair chance, but it didn't take long for it to become a painful, boring slog. Oh well, it's been an eternity since I watched the Naruto movies though, so I might treat myself to the good ones whenever I'm a Naruto mood, lol.

Whenever someone asks what my favorite anime is I always tell them Death Note. I think that still holds true even now but there are some shows I have to give honorable mentions to I think. Dragon Ball Z was my whole childhood pretty much and then Naruto after that. I especially enjoyed Naruto Shippuden but I haven't watched any Boruto. Fullmetal Alchemist deserves a mention as well. I watched the original 2003 anime and then Brotherhood back to back and heavily enjoyed both. In more recent years, I'd say Mob Psycho 100 and Blue Exorcist are some of the standouts for me. The last one I'm gonna mention is Ghost Stories because it made me laugh the entire way through and I'm still floored that the dub exists lol.

My favorite anime is Black Rock Shooter, for a variety of reasons. The story is very wholesome and relatable. The action is top notch, especially for the era, and the animation in general has an art style I really enjoy.

I'm sure my answer will change from time to time, but I really do love Black Rock Shooter.

Some honorable mentions include Asterisk War, Snow White With the Red Hair, Guilty Crown, Yona of the Dawn, Hunter x Hunter jut to name a few.

Now that I finally got around to watching both My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, they're both near the top now. MHA because of the characters and action. FMAB because of the story. I decided to give FMAB a chance with a few episodes and I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.
