I may really like the Chemical Plant theme from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 but I am not a fan of what the rest of the game has to offer since that is my favourite Sonic game.
I'll have to agree with mr genesis here because on the whole, Sonic CD had such a good sound track, the Eastern and Western ones.

GenesisJunkie : You could put Sega CD games into a car radio? Or is your car a Sega CD.

For me it was the second Sonic Game. The music was just fantastic. The beginning stage rocked. The boss battles was catchy. I mystery cave theme rocked for me. I can't remember which sonic game had the pin ball theme but that music was also good. Sonic 3 and Knuckles was pretty good too.

MechaMento : Sega CD games double as CDs. Sometimes they give you hints and tips when played on a CD player, most of the time it just plays the tracks from the game. 

It would be pretty dang cool if my car played Sega CD games though lol.

The music in Sonic is pretty good in most games but I have to agree and say Sonic CD (Japanese/European). My favourite music in that is Wacky Workbench Past. Stardust Speedway's Bad Future, Metallic Madness's Present and Bad Future are also good.

My favourite Sonic soundtrack is quite honestly Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. It had so much variety and it WORKED! I can't name a single song from that game that I hated.
Sonic Heroes is second because, while all of the stages and bosses have great tunes, I don't like a couple of the vocal songs (We Can and whatever Team Rose's is)
Shadow is third because I love the vocal tracks, and there's certain stages that I adore, but some tracks get repetitive quickly (I'm looking at you, Lost Impact!)

I think Sonic Unleashed has the best soundtrack as it has different types of instruments playing. The only problem is that in the night stages the music is interrupted all the time by having to fight Dark Gaia  monsters every 5 minutes so you never get to hear the music. I would recommend people to listen to it. The best one to me is the one from Rooftop Run as it fits to me. Sonic Adventure series also has good music but I am not a fan of a few of the songs in it like Big the Cat's theme and both of Tail's themes.
