I'm in an advanced 8th grade science class and I have a teacher who doesn't explain things well. He introduced an AP Physics unit just for fun a couple of weeks ago and I have an easy Mechanical Advantage test coming up that has nothing to do with it. There will be a 100-point bonus question based on what we learned in the AP unit, though. I have a suspicion that it has to do with this question:

"An arrow is fired at a speed of 40m/s, horizontally from a height of 2 meters. How far away does the arrow land?"

I understand some of this stuff already, but my teacher taught this in a terrible way. Can I get some hints on how to do this? (Don't give away the answer please)

By the way, my teacher has a tendency to go overboard with extra credit; I once got a 188 on a quiz and a 150 on a mid-term This time there's 2 25-point bonuses and, of course, this 100-pt. bonus!

One time we did this 24 tournament which the objective is to add, multiply, subtract and divide the 4 given numbers to get 24, and I did it on a paper for class, and it was 15 questions, and I got all of them right, so on the grading website my math teacher put 15/0 for the extra credit, and since I already had a 100% in algebra for 7th grade, I got a 250% and on my report card, for math after a few days of tests, the final score was a 114% My parents bought me an Xbox 360 for the awesome grade!!
