The left/right paradigm in politics in quite outdated. Although is all ends up on a question of more or less freedom, there are two main categories of government intervention: in the economy (x-axis) and people's personal lives (y axis).

First quadrant: conservative. OK to intervene in people's personal lives, but not (usually) in the economy. The farther up, the less individual freedom
Second quadrant: socialist/communist. OK for government to intervene everywhere
Third quadrant: anarcho-communist. OK for government to intervene in the economy, but he should let people decide how to spread the wealth
Fourth quadrant : anarcho-capitalist/libertarian/classical liberal. The further down the quadrant, the less government the person wants.

I'm in the fourth quadrant at 5.88/-4.05

janus : I don't really get the way you set this up. I do want to say that, as a conservative, we don't want the government involved in our lives. The constitution clearly states that the government is owned by the people, not the other way around. I don't like the path the current president is taking the country down.

Edit: Didn't see the test. Here's my results. Economic Left/Right: -0.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.28

I think its more of a circle tbh, if you keep swinging to the left or the right the two essentially become the same thing, as far as the average joe goes anyway.

I like that thatcher was authoritarian right, pegged her.
By my chart, im clearly liberal socialist.Strangely, i actually seem to be about level with ghandi, although more liberal by a notch.

Economic Left/Right: -6.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.54
If i got your numbering right thatd make me 3rd quadrant. Im not entirely convinced since it labels left as communism, which is a form of socialism, not socialism itself.

Apparently my ideal choice in the us elections would have been stewart alexander, of the democratic socialist party.

Brigand :

put img in square brackets before, and /img in square brackets after.
Or you could have just saved the image from the site, and hit choose file in the reply menu. Its up above the text box.
i you look to the left in the reply window it tells you how to use the tags.
Incidentally, you are more left than me. You must leave. there can be only one!
heh.
"so what does that make me?"

I cant be a communist! I don't believe in one party systems or that state should be above people... It is the same as fascism!

Besides, the quiz was very america centric and at times I wish the answers would have had more middle ground but... well, who am I fooling comrade.

A ghost is haunting Europe! The ghost of communism! We have nothing to lose except our schackles! Proletariat's arise! Harasoo, tovarish!

By looking at your coordinated, you seem to agree more with self-formed communes rather than USSR-style government

mrfe

The most vocal conservatives in Canada and the US do want to get involved in people's lives : systematic opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, immigration... But by looking at your coordinates, you don't seem like such a person

janus : Most conservatives don't want the government anywhere NEAR our lives. That's liberals and communists for you. I have quite a leaning in the conservative direction and I don't want the government intervening with my life, my money, or the private sector.

Then, according to the North American way of thinking, you are more of a libertarian. Because when you look at the Republican party (of the Conservatives in Canada), they are about as bad as the Democrats/Liberals when it comes to getting involved in people's lives and wallets

I'm a conservative Christian, but I'm not a blind fool. I understand the different functions of government and churches, I don't think government should play mommy and daddy either. I willingly choose to do what is desired of me by my God, but I'm not going to push it to extremes that are not even required. Some people just believe what they're told and never actually examine their surroundings for themselves...
