It means how do you look at things, with a positive attitude or a negative one.
The glass being half empty means the negative said (aww, its half gone ) while the glass half full is the positive (hey look, I have half a glass full )

Then again theres another option with the glass half empty.
"Aww, its half gone, but it's ok I have more in the fridge"
So being while things are horrible, they can get better.

Or then you have "Hope for the best but plan for the worst"
Being hope that everything is good, but don't count on it

I would prefer to live in a world of optimists personally.... we might actually accomplish a lot of good things if people in general were more positive in their outlooks on life.

although I think if you live in the world of inbetween then you could call yourself a realist. You don't look for the positive or negative in any situation... you just accept things for what they are and treat them as such. You don't waste time trying to make anything seem better or worse than it is.
