To my knowledge, that wont have a huge impact on you life. A brother of mine had scoliosis and he grew up just fine. It also gave him an excuse to ask for back massages all the time, so in a way, I'm kind of jealous.

You'll pull through, its no big deal.

Well, I don't know what that is so a description of what scoliosis is would have been really helpful. I don't want to have to do a google search in order to sympathize with you

thing1 : I also have scoliosis. You have my deepest sympathies. I don't know if yours is as bad as mine used to be, but swimming definitely helps. I reduced mine to a seven-degree on the upper spine, which is very good.

It's hard with scoliosis, and I learned to walk strangely because of it (I have this weird limp), but with a ton of therapy and exercise that I absolutely hated (not a big fan of swimming), I pulled through, and I believe you can too.

Dragonlord Stephi : well, I am in the Army... so having it does not help. And I know I will butcher the spelling, but I have scroscoliosis... I am pretty sure I spelled that wrong. I might have to get out because of it if the treatment does not work.

ender44 : My life? Are you forgetting what I do? I am in the Army... If this treatment does not work... that means I might be out of the Army about a year after joining.

geeogree : scoliosis is where the spine is curved or messed up. Usually, you look at the back of somebody, and there back is like a S almost. Mine... you look at the side, and I have a hunchback and a gut...

that sucks.

Is the army at least paying for your treatment? I would hope so.

thing1 : That sounds worse than what I have. My apologies for the misunderstanding. Hopefully the treatment will work and you'll be able to continue serving our country.

geeogree : yeah. it's part of my TriCare. If you are in the Army, and you have a medical issue, then you are good, pretty much. I do not know what they don't cover. I think they cover everything. Only thing is... surgery or anything big like that has a lot of paperwork first. >.< Thankfully, I was able to just make my appointments.

Dragonlord Stephi : it's alright that you misunderstood. I hope it does. I really do not want to have to leave the Army. At least I have a contingency plan if I have to.

Well at least you will be taken care of. It would have sucked to have been diagnosed with this either having no insurance or having the insurance revoked for whatever.

You have scoliosis from front to back? Did they really call it "scoliosis", as it's sound more my lordosis or kyphosis (I teach physiology and anatomy at a local college).  Did they tell you what degree it is?

Scoliosis can be painful, my sympathies. The basic treatment we do for it is: stretching the muscles on the concave side; strengthening the muscle on the convex side, if that helps any.

Light Knight : maybe kyphosis.. I think they pronounced it cyroscoliosis? I could wrong. I spent all day Friday researching it, but could never find the name. I have hunchback and a gut, if that helps.

thing1 :

Interesting, I've never heard of anything like that and am curious. If you look at this picture, what your describing is the left picture and middle picture, kyphosis and lordosis combined.

But it doesn't matter, if you want to do some research about it, just ask you doctor to repeat it slowly next time your in.

Have you experienced any decrease in mobility?

Glad it is taken care of. Do you know that girls are more prone to it than guys are? I would have never known that. A lot of friends at my school have it, it really sucks, because you have to wear an uncomfortable brace to fix it.

My apologies, I misread geogree's post when he said at least you will be taken care of. I feel like I will get scoliosis with the amount of stuff I carry in my 70 pound bag for school. I really do sincerely you hope you get better and will be able to continue protecting our country. sorry, this is the last post I a make.
