Hi there ...

So I'm new to the whole Robots/Electronics scene but have always been interested in Robotics just never got around to doing anything wanted to get some pointers/help and some good resources for beginners.

I have been surfing about the net and found MANY Ideas and was wanting some feedback on a few things

good cheap chassis ( since I don't have the space tools or skills to make them from scratch)
easy to use micro controllers and  programming them ( Arduino products seem to be good)
some basic Electronics kits/learning resources ( to explain exactly what a relay, transistor and what not do for a start)
any clubs Australian ones would be nice

or anything else to point me in the right direction

I hope someone here knows what I'm on about or if you want to learn we can pool our resources or whatever

I don't know much about robotics myself, but if you don't really have a grasp on electronics you should check out some of the "kids" learning kits. They're generally pretty cheap in the US, not sure what the conversion rate is to AUD but in USD they're about $25. If you have RadioShack there, they have a bunch of them, if not, just look around for electronics shoppes, and maybe ask in them about clubs.

Lazlo Falconi: Yeah I've ordered a "learning kit " (2 weeks to wait ) but the only local store is just a "stockist" and the sales assistant has no idea about electronics and so was no help but he did say he was interested to learn... without fiddling... lol

so basically it's Internet searching for me found a couple of forums but they seem way above my level

You may want to start checking with Remote control car sites. Quite allot of principals that go into Remote control stuff like Cars, and mini construction vehicles (toys and standard size Equipment) are just the same. Only differing in size mainly. But if "A.I." is more your thing I have no Idea where to begin. I mostly follow updates on NASA and Exo-suits and things of that nature.
And my Frequency of looking that stuff up?
Not often.
There is also allot of things you can look up in "Prosthetics."
I am certain there are tons of things you can find on that stuff.
Other than that I do not know much you can look for. I did a little browsing during my break periods at work to pass time. But that's about as extensive as I get.
Just checking the headlines on what's new.
Nothing that would help much.
Good Luck.
Peace.
