Before you read any farther, I want to make it clear that I'm not speaking about the awesome but completely unscientific super-human homunculii in FMA. I'm referring to the theory in the Dark Ages, that man could be made in a test tube. I heard people speak about test tube babies, but I'm not sure how they work and whether they live very long. So- can we make an artificial human with any chance of living a semi-normal life? Is this possible in the near future? Lastly, would your ethics allow you to do such a thing? Creating life is something that I believe only God has the right to (and I don't mean having kids, I mean creating it in an unnatural way, such as by the aide of machines). What's your view on this?

Please respond; I've been thinking about it for a while and I decided that I trust you, the Vizzed Community, with these questions! Thank you for at least reading this.

If you are speaking of test-tube babies, this is already real as we speak. It mean you insert a sperm in the ovum, it creats an embryo that can for a little while live outside the uterus until it is placed there to become a full grown baby. This has helped many infertile coouples since the seventies. Of somebody can explain how it happens who knows the better english medicalterms for it, I would not mind. And yes, they have come to live completely normal and full grown lives. First such baby was Loise Brown Born in 1978. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louise_Brown

And if you are speaking of the old alchemist theories of the middleages which were trying to creat a small humanoid living creature (homunculi) out of matters that were at that time at hand, I doubt it will ever come to life. As far as I remember they needed stuff like milk and horsefeces fermenteed for a time in something.... sorry if I cant remember the exact recepies but I seriously doubt for them to work. As for creating life out of "dirt" so to speak, I guess it can be possible by science but not on the level that you can create anything that would seem even remotely as mammal.

But I think the race to create the first artifical human is not now happening as in trying to creat it out of mud but more like research in artifical intelligence and in robots.

As for ethics, I condone the study of AI and Robots.Creating littlepeople out of horsepoo I dont condemn either but see it nothing but.... poppycock.

Last time I checked it is Not Legal By International Law.
People are not allowed to be Cloned like the sheep that was a resounding Breakthrough was. Quite simply put. I think no one has figured out a way to Tax Clones just right. Otherwise we would have a clone army like Star Wars or Robotech. Cloned Labor force for the crappy jobs and the Soul Killing work of fast food and what ever.
There is a word that comes to mind but I am not going to speak it.
But Taxes?
Taxes is fair game. Plus it is the only thing that makes sense.
Though I like the Breakthrough with the "Nanobot" more. (Imagine what would happen to credit card companies if there were no death. Ever.) This is about "Clones".
So, I say it's about the taxes.
"Money." Always makes things Funny.
Good Luck To All.
I'm Done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

I am aware that it is not legal currently, but I was speaking about the future. Thanks to Brigand for clearing up what test-tube babies are. I was referring to the theory of the alchemists, as Brigand also pointed out, but not in the context they were. I was thinking of the advanced technology and breakthroughs we are having (total scientific knowledge doubles every two years), not about the materials the alchemists of the dark ages were attempting. In any case, I don't believe money has anything to do with the reason people aren't researching the cloning of humans, but that it has a more ethical side.

Yeah, I doubt that anything like that will happen any time soon. On the other hand, I think that semi-bionic humans will be on the rise late 21st century/early 22nd century, with people becoming integrated with robots.

thenoobtester : There are amazing breakthroughs with artificial everything. The first purely artificial heart was implanted a couple of years ago. I think you're right.
