Many of you have heard about this topic, and I recently found out about it. This is the topic of the basement in the ancient cistern, which I'm sure most of you found a little odd in the beginning. What makes this story even weirder is its startling connection with a Buddhist story. Lets get an overview of the level. You are in this peaceful place, and then you literally enter the twisting nether. And when you are trying to leave, you grab a thread and try to climb while demons try to climb up also.

And now the Buddhist story. Buddha had traveled into heck (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the full word on this site)where he sees people who havent done a single good thing in their lives. Then Buddha sees a man who the only good thing he had done was not killing a spider. Buddha decides that he should leave the nether and descends a spiders thread to lift him up. The man begins to climb up, but other demons climb on trying to get out, the man tries to shake them off, but the line breaks and he falls back

By now you should have seen the similarities with this level and the story. Just wanted to post this thread n case anyone didn't know.

I already knew that but i always thought that it was really neat that they put it into the game. At the time when i was playing the game i never knew about this.

I knew they looked a little zombie like that part in the ancient cistern is my least favorite but its related to Buddhism that's probably why it was so confusing

I didn't find it all that confusing.

I know that this particular spider story is a Buddhist legend, but to be honest, they've been telling stories like that since..well, forever. There's an ancient legend about a pair of sisters. They were both good kind people, but one day one of the sisters steps on a frog and kills it. She slips and falls and dies, and because it was her last action, she is sent to the level of ...heck...where murderers go. Her sister pleads with the gods to allow her to move to a better location in...that place, but the lords of Judgement refuse, saying that her case has been decided. So the sister finds herself a way into...there, and tries to rescue her, but the souls of the...darned....escape with them, bringing sadness to the Earth. The gods have to step in and set things to right, and as punishment for their mistake, the sisters are both forced to serve as the guardians of the door to...y'know, and to kill any living human that tries to enter it. I can't remember where that's from; I heard it when I was a kid, but it was in some book of Legends from Around the World or something.
