I have not been active here in the last two weeks. I want to. But I have been going through some things and lately become depressed. I check here daily and look at the posts but not being active. I mainly played the games here nowadays to relive my childhood. Which makes me feel happy and not depressed. But enough about me how do you deal with depression?

Now I went through a EXTREMELY depressing time of my life, and how I got over it; I spent time on Vizzed. Here I made friends, posting rivals, layouts, and threads so people can help me through my problems. Somewhat like therapy only with no degree (WOW! I made no sense most likely!). And I can always help you, if you wanna chat, you can PM me, summon me (In the correct forum), or post a comment on your profile.

I have suffered through depression most of my life, and all of the websites told me to spend time with my friends. I don't really have any friends because I never felt like making the effort as a kid, I always saw myself as the best companion. What I found out, and yeah, this will surprise you, is that when I play the legend of Zelda, those bad feelings go away. I'm not saying play Zelda, I'm saying do what you enjoy the most. There is that one thing that will never be affected by depressions effects that cause you to not want to do anything, even the things you used to love to do. Do that thing, and if you don't have time for it, make time. I'm afraid its that simple. Yeah I have a degree in psychology, and most everybody said the friends and family thing, but I believe you should do that one thing that makes you happy in life, there literally has to be one.

(And this might sound a little dark, but if you're depression gets at all serious, than please tell a professional)

Personally I don't really deal with depression that well.... As in I haven't found something that has essentially stopped me from being the depressing, sarcastic, pessimistic person I am....

However the thing that I do enjoy that makes me forget about how crap the world is etc... Is chatting to people... I know some of the people who read this will have expected me to have put My little pony or muffins... But seriously nothing is better than having a meaningful conversation with someone that you like or even dislike... It makes you think about other things, It makes you laugh when the other person acts like an idiot or makes a funny comparison or joke... Plus it always helps to tell supportive people what's making you upset or annoyed..  Essentially the thing that makes me forget about all this stuff is people that take the time to talk to you...

People can be amazing when they are not so focused on themselves and focus on others...

Brigand: Yes, I'd say that's probably not the healthy way to deal with it, lol.

serverbot128: Neither is this. Believe me, I've tried it. Then you just get more depressed cause you're fat.

I just try to do things that make me happy. I'm struggling with depression caused by pain and things that are going on in  my life that I can't change, so I often find myself dealing with this. Random crying jags and times of listless restlessness, where nothing sounds good...times when the pain just won't go away and I look at my life and realize that it's going to be like this forever....

It's just important to try to focus on the things that are good. I know that sounds inane and sappy, believe me, but it works. I too don't have any friends-i never really have much. So I turn to other things-games, the internet, books I love. Doing stupid random things like going to the park and looking at the flowers. Even going somewhere that people are having fun...I don't feel left out, I just sit and absorb the happiness and excitement that's all around me.

I'm sorry, and I know this is probably going to offend some people, but the worst thing you can do in situations like this is turn to God. This isn't a bash against religion, but people who suddenly become religious while undergoing depression or life-altering events rarely do so out of actual religious fervor, but just want a crutch to help them through the moment. They don't realize that by choosing not to try to deal with it, they're only making it worse when it all comes rushing back in...and it will. If you're religious anyway, there's absolutely nothing wrong with reaching out to the other members of your church or religion and seeking comfort and guidance. Your pastor, or any good pastor, will be happy to meet with you and help you find a way to come to terms with your life and your feelings.

And also, and I realize that this sounds stupid coming from me, but...try to make some friends? Even just on the internet-I have several people I chat with regularly on line. They've never met me and don't know what I look like, and vice-versa, but that's just the way I want it. But they like the same things I like and they don't mind listening to me whinge on about stuff, and I do the same for them. It's easier to talk to people you know you'll never meet anyway. FInd groups that have the same interest as you and jump in and give it a try. You'd be surprised how good it makes you feel to have even this little bit of social interaction in your life.

Believe me, I understand how hard this can be. If it gets bad, don't hesitate to go to a counselor-I'm working on finding one right now who i can afford to see. The state has some available and I'm working with my local Health Clinic to find one I like.  I don't need a full-on psychiatrist, just someone to listen to me and make helpful suggestions as to how I can cope with things. Don't be ashamed to admit you need help.

I been dealing with depression myself for most of my life specially when my grandma slowly died before my sophomore year. Only things that helped me was drawing, and when I was unable to I would listen to artists like blutengel and evanescence. Anothering that helped was helping other people I found mostly on online rpg like adventure quest worlds and helped them deal with their own problems. Whole thing with friends wouldn't work for me because of what happened to me as a child. It really comes down to the individual themselves. Reason the art thing works for me is that I can express what ever I was feeling and when I get done with atleast one drawing, what i felt would have flowed out. Kind of weird but thats best way I can explain it is that I transfered what I felt from myself and into something else in a non harmful way, would have done writing as well but I have major writer's block and as for music, I have know clue on reasonings there since when depressed I listen to dark music which is sometimes disturbing as well.

When I was in the hospital they tried putting me on meds and the meds just made me very irate and violent so I stopped taking them. The only reason I get out of bed in the morning is my daughter, but I collect Sega Genesis games to get my mind off of it. A hobby is a really good way to help deal with depression.

One day at a time.

If I'm having a hard hit of depression, I try to do things I enjoy, to take my mind off of it.

Being around people I care about helps a lot to, there have been many times I have been feeling depressed about things, but my friends, girlfriend and family are always there to support me.

I have turned to drinking before, but that made me worse personally, so now I just try to think positive.

Well little does anybody know on vizzed..   I have a huge depression problem .. pretty much my entire life.. to the point I have to take medication or I get really depressed or start becoming really paranoid about nothing. If I run out of meds on the wrong day though I usually keep my mind full with entertainment whether it be Netflix or gaming.. or just simply anything that keeps my mind not falling asleep.

When I'm depressed I usually talk to somebody that I trust. It's always nice to talk with others, the feeling you get when you're not the only one who has a problem can cheer me up. Everyone has problems and everyone needs help at some point. Don't be afraid to ask about things, that's what I'm trying to say.

I usually deal with depression by sleeping and taking my mind off of it.  When I'm really, really depressed I try to think about the positive things and tell myself it's going to be all right.

When I feel like crap, and am just like "I'm going to die someday anyways, life is pointless, blah," I just think of everything that is going to happen in my life that hasn't happened yet. That makes me feel better, thinking about how much the future holds, like a wife, kids, a house, everything on my bucket list, etc.

Oh and besides drinking, benzodiazepines.  Don't mix these two, though. Unless you care about stuff like actual memories or common decency.

Othewise, works better than having an actual friend or actually talking to your wife or kids. About anything.
Oh and besides drinking, benzodiazepines.  Don't mix these two, though. Unless you care about stuff like actual memories or common decency.

You have to know how to cheer yourself up, because there won't always be people there to do that for you.

-Write a list somewhere (like, on a file on your computer) and keep links of articles and videos from youtube that always make you smile or laugh.

-Talk to an old friend, or anyone who is empathetic.

-Chow down on the foods that you love.

-Maybe pull an all-nighter all by yourself, or with someone you live with, and play board games, build forts, watch tons of movies, and watch the sunrise.

-Take a bath with tons of bubbles, or just however you like it.

-Buy something new, whether it's a new laptop, TV, or a video game, or some new blankets, just something..

Not sure if I've helped, but it was kind of fun making that list ^-^
