That's pretty much the best way, unless you have ULTRA balls. Catching takes patience, ya know. If that was your last Ball, then you need to get a greater stock, just in case you run into something good.

There is actually an easier way to do it. When you find the Pokémon that you want to catch, press f2 to save your game, then if you don't catch it, press f4, and you will go back to the beginning of the battle.  With this, you can catch him on your "first" try.
