I just bought a Dreamcast off of Ebay. Well, my mom did, but I payed for it. I had $50 RL Dollars and she had a paypal. So, she paid for it and I payed her back. I pretty much payed for it lol

Anyways, I just bought a Dreamcast! I, my friends, got a piece of gaming history. The revolutionary system of all(aside from Atari Lynx handheld). It comes with all the things needed to use it. Even the modem cord! Has:
Controllers:
2 controllers
Games:
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1
(3 other games, can't remember)
Need:
All of what's needed
Other:
Dreamcast Linux
(others)

I was just going off of memory.

Sweet!!! My guess is you got the white dreamcast? The black one I like better but... it's sports related

Good luck with the VMU units, they use memory up fast.

Virtual Memory Unit... I think that's what they are not sure. They are the memory things for Dreamcast so you can save games. I tried saving Sonic Adventure and it used the whole thing in one save... maybe mine was broken or something I baught it used

Actually Jigsaw's statement is false. The only reason his Sonic Adventure game took up an entire VMU (memory card) is because he downloaded the VMU game to his VMU (yes, some dreamcast games had little mini games you could download to the VMU which allowed you to play those mini games anywhere with your VMU). You should be able to store a lot of save files on the VMU unless it's a sports game.

Also, a lot of the DC games on Get-Your-Rom.com are self boot which means you simply burn the games (with 'Alcohol 120%') and they're good to go. Other games require a boot disc which is just as easy to burn. Either way, you have a huge selection of awesome games to play, and many of them multi-player too so prepare for some amazing times alone and with a friend.

First suggestion would be to play Shenmue, and than just look at IGN's games that have a rating of 9 or above for a big selection of other awesome games.

Anyway, Congratulations on getting probably one of the best gaming systems ever made!

EDIT: Also note, VMU's are pretty cheap new. I've got like 6 brand new ones unopened that I stocked up on years ago.

I technically have a dreamcast...
Though,

A) It's not mine (Brother's friend lent it to us)
B) It doesn't work (No cables)

It has 7 games, 3 of which are copies.
Including Resident evil 2 (Both disks)

I think there's 5 controllers, 3 Memory Cards, and It's a gray DC.
There's also an a/v cable for what looks to be one of the first gen consoles o-o;

Anyways, have fun, and don't drop your Linx.

Dave: *phew* I was worried for a minute there. That's a really cool feature though. I'll probably be burning Shenmue and Star Wars Episode I Jedi Power Battles first. I remember playing Power Battles on the PS1 with my big bro when I was 4. As for Shenmue, never played it, but it looks great.
Also, could I use Imgburn to burn the games right?

Benny: Cool, yet so not cool. Do ya mean Linux?

Benny: Never heard of Imgburn, never used it, I've always just used Alcohol 120%, that's the one everyone recommends. Also, some of the mini games that you can get for your VMU are pretty fun and some games like Time Stalkers (one of my faves) utilizes it really nicely, you can play the Mini games on the VMU when you're away from your DC and you can actually earn stuff on the VMU which you can transfer back to the game. The Chao games on the VMU from Sonic Adventure have a similar concept, there's quite a few games out there that let you download mini games to your VMU and some are even multiplayer which means you can connect them to someone elses VMU and play together or against each other.

IceWave: Dreamcast wasn't the first system to have online but the first system to successfully pull it off. The company didn't fail, the Dreamcast was a huge hit with probably the highest rating ratio of any system but for some reason Sega decided to stop supporting it (except for in japan, which they still make games for the DC there).

gtwalq: Yes but only on private servers, and I'm not sure how many people still play on the private servers but if you do play online on a private server, be warned now they probably have hackers so make sure that the memory card you have in your controller at the time has no important files because I've had hackers on 3 different occassions literally wipe out all the data on my VMU (memory card).

I think I remember trying to download the Chao ones before.
Those things take up a lot of memory, if I remember correctly.

Icewave, it's more of an achievement since it had working internet. Alek says PSO still goes online once every so long.

The NES modem thing I'm pretty sure was japan only. However, teh Saturn one was released in the united states but the only game I remember having online for the Sega Saturn was Saturn Bomberman. Dreamcast was so innovative that one of their later titles, Alien Front Online, had a microphone and you could play the games while voice chatting (all other DC games only supported keyboard chatting). I remember playing it and it being completely something new to me since it was the first console game to ever have that feature.

Also something innovative about the Dreamcast is it supports HD with the proper cables and I heard it supports it up to 720. I also heard that in HD, Dreamcast games look better than PS2 games and even looks better than the Wii.

Dave: OK then. I'll be using Alcohol 120% cracked... VMU is really awesome! It's like a 3D handheld. Really awesome.

DM: That's cool. One of the 1st consoles going online. Really revolutionary.

Benny: Did ya mean Linux disk? Or Linx?

Well the NES modem had maybe one game that supported it, more like a little footnote in the history of consoles.

Anyways, I'd recommend Imgburn, the easiest burning program I have used with a success rate of 100%.

Ok well if DM suggests Imgburn than it must be good, I've just never used it.

Rasenganfan: The VMU graphics aren't that great just so you know, pretty much black and white, don't think it even has grey scale but still a neat concept and some of the games are still pretty fun. The Dreamcast 2 was suppose to have a far more advanced "VMU" but yeah, who knows if a Dreamcast 2 will ever happen

Yeah, IMGburn is really great. I used it to burn Win7 onto a DVD. Really great program.
Ah, OK. It's still a really great idea. I hope that Sega makes some good games(which they seem to like making crap Sonic games) that way they can get money and make a DC II.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
