I saw a thread here yesterday saying they were thinking about making republic free up to lvl 15.
Cant say if thats true though.
Personaly, I dont pay subscriptions, I think theyre a con. That being said the old republic is the most interesting looking mmprpg out there.
So if I was choosing between the 2, id choose that.

BluemageKyle : I'd say SW:TOR, not only because it's F2P but also because it's just a great overall mmorpg .
PS  Final Fantasy XIV doesn't really have good game play it gets old after a couple hours of game play .

This is a personal choice you have to make. I've not heard much about the Star Wars game, but like someone mentioned, free play to level fifty is pretty darn good.

I have heard many things about FF14, mostly bad. I heard that when the game was released it was so buggy that it could hardly be played.
Also the game isn't set up that well and that to get the most out of the graphics you need a good graphics card.

But it depends on what you would rather play. Star Wars will obviously be more sci-fi and FF will probably be a mixture between sci-fi and fantasy.

I don't know much about TOR but I do know that the initial release of FFXIV was rushed out and not well received and Square even apologized for it. Now Square's currently in a sense "remaking" the game as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, so if you're interested in FFXIV I suggest looking into Realm Reborn and waiting for that to come out if you're interested because from what I heard Realm Reborn is way different and looks much better than the old FFXIV.

BluemageKyle : I never got into the FF series and I am a Star Wars fan at heart so it made choosing between the two rather easy: SWTOR. I myself haven't played it because I don't have a computer that I feel can run it well(that and I didn't feel like paying for a subscription). If your going to play an MMO game, may I recommend EVE. Its EXTREMELY complex and daunting for a newbie but once you learn the ins and outs of the game... it is FUN.
