I was just looking through the different types and it struck me as odd that there was no such thing as 'light' pokémon. I mean we have Normal, Fighting, Fire, Water, Grass, Flying, Poison, Psychic, Electric, Ground, Rock, Ice, Bug, Dragon, Ghost, Dark and Steel but no light. Which I just find odd, because surely Light would counter Dark pokémon effectively.



So lets invent light pokémon.



I would imagine them to be mostly small creatures, perhaps some larger ones. Already existing pokémon which could have light as a secondary type would be Togepi, Dratini and maybe Mr Mime, there's most likely to be others as well but I can't think of any more.



I think that pure light pokémon would be mainly support creatures. They would have weak attacks, or none at all, but would be able to cause other creatures to sleep, build defences, lower evasion, heal and would have hidden abilities which support the team while the pokémon is in it's pokéball. For example, every turn there is a random chance your party gets healed, or one random pokémon is healed.

thats cool it reminds me of the holy type in digimon because they have lots of heal attacks and some attacks that have status effect

I don't think I ever paid attention to Holy Digimon, I was having a hard time remembering which was which when Angemon and Angewomon smacked into my thoughts. So I wasn't thinking about them when I posted this. Digimon's been off the tv for years. Which is annoying.

Reshiram could be one! I dunno, if you don't think so...

 Varaddude630: I like the idea of Ho Oh, or at lease Ho Oh's undiscovered golden cousin being a light pokémon. Espeon would probably not be a light pokémon since Gamefreak have a habit of creating a new Eevee evolution for new types. With the exception of bug, steel, poison and ghost... Litwick's a great idea and Lanturn would be great if it wasn't already water and electric.

Good idea, but Pokémon can't have three types.
So dratini would lose its light type when it turns into a dragonite.
Ho-oh would have to lose its flying or fire type.
And if Reshiram would be light then rekrom would be dark. (to be opposites) Then reshiram would have a huge advantage right from the start.

 earthwarrior: First of all, Awesome background. DBZ rulez. And you're right Dragonair would lose light when it evolves, but that makes sense. I'd imagine there's other pokémon out there that lose or gain a type when they evolve and as we all know sometimes it's better to hold a pokémon back from evolving. Like Onyx losing it's rock type when it evolves into Steelix and gains steel type. Same for Pupitar and Skorupi. I think Ho-oh would lose the fire, for obvious reasons, and I can't comment on the Reshiram because my knowledge on pokémon gets a bit shaky after the second generation. I only know about the ones I've mentioned because my cousin's started getting into pokémon. 

firt of all, electric pokemon are like supposed to be light pokemon , and phsycic would also be considered as light. and plus, think about it, how wou ldlight even be usefull in battle, you can probably blind other pokemon, but electric can do that too. and maybe light beams but normal pokemon can make light beams, and so can phscic. and why would we even need light beam if we have hyper beam. whats the point of having light balls if we have electric balls.

and ho-oh doesnt need it, if it already fire. and amazing flying attacks.  reshiram is awesome enough being a fire type. and chinchou and lanturn already have electric which is also a source of light. latias and latios are dragon making them extremely powerfull, what more do they need. mr. mime is loved by me just the way he is..... phsycic. now togepi is like the only pokemon here that i think would be good as a light pokemon. i mean it's so rare yet it has terrifyng atacks (althopugh i beat the ghost gym in johto easily thans to togepi. ) litwich, as you can see on his head, he has fire, cause he is a candle, but fire make light too so what the point of it. he can just be a nice firely, and ghostly lovable cute candle. so there is my opinion. i, am not saying your idea is bad, but i dont think light would be needed. i am pretty sure th pokemon desighners have tought about this and for a reason tey decided not to add light. if you want light so much. why dont you download rpg maker and make your own hacked game of pokemon where pokemon have light

 haitamchouiekh: Well I wasn't thinking light so much as well sunlight or lamplight, but more like as an opposition to Dark. In Japan 'dark' pokemon are actually called 'evil' pokemon but that was changed in western versions for, probably, marketing reasons. So when I say 'light' pokemon I'm really saying 'good' pokemon. Dark pokemon have the general characteristic of being strong attackers and weak defenders, using mainly physical attacks to defeat their foes. Light pokemon would be those with strong defence but weak attack, and therefore would have a support role rather than a main role. They would have very few attacks which cause harm, in my imagination of them.
