Alright, so I read a pm that was sent to me and I wanted to respond to. However, since I didn't have the time, I marked it as unread and let it sit for weeks.  I finally today just shook my head and figured I'd never get around to it, and I deleted it.

Well, I guess because I deleted it while it was still unread... the pm system had a little hissy fit.  For privacy reasons, let's say this person was named John. You know how right below the "Private Messages" link it always shows the name of the person who last sent you an unread message?  Mine show "John" as default. 

If Susy were to send me a message right this moment, it will read Susy.  But as soon as I read her message, it goes back to saying "John" as the last unread sender.  However, I don't even have any messages in my box from "John".  In fact, the most recent message I have unmarked is from leod.

It's very annoying.  
Is there any way to fix this?

Huh. It seems I fixed the problem inadvertently while also discovering something else.  Someone just sent me a pm, and I read it.  It contained something I wanted to look at next weekend since I'm really busy right now.  I checked it on the inbox, then went to go click 'mark as unread'. However, I noticed RIGHT after I clicked that the button said mark ALL as unread.

I don't think we actually have a "Mark All as Unread" option... in functionality anyway. As far as I know, you can only mark all as read (and it doesn't check to verify you have anything unread... it's just a simple link).

The inbox is still being very odd for me.
Almost the same issue as before.

The day the site was lagging, several messages that I received were tripled and quadrupled.  Instead of opening all those copies, I deleted them.  I figured, after all, that I could use the fix I found a few posts above this.

Only this time, it's not working.

After I deleted several of mrfe's clone pm's without reading them, I experienced the same issues as stated in the original post.  I went to 'fix' it by marking all my messages read, then marking the messages I had not responded to as 'unread'.  Well, now the glitch mentioned before is worse.  It wasn't fixed by marking everything read.

Now, anytime mrfe messages me, my inbox says I have 0 private messages.  If I go to my inbox, I clearly have 10 unread pms.

EDIT:  As I was typing the above, mrfe sent me another message.  NOW it says I have 10 unread messages.  Yet if he messages me again, it will say 0 unread messages, and it just keeps flip flopping like that.

Slightly offtopic, or kind of on topic, I'm not sure, but, I just wanted to say Thanks. Why? Well, all the way back in 2011, Geeo did a test permaban on me (permaban on one section only). It failed. After logging back in, it said that I had 1 Unread Message from Geeo, and it has stayed that way ever since, Nya~.

Up till now, at least. I had temporarily fixed it once or twice by 100% emptying my inbox, but after a new PM, it would return. Now, it looks like it's fixed.

So once again, thanks for the unintentional help, Nya~!
