My question is what are trust points, and how do you get them.  I looked at the ranking thing yesterday and I want to be helpful in this community by being promoted and not being just a member who plays games.  So I was reading the trusted things and it says you need five and I want to know how do you get them and what is the point of them.  I thank you in advance if you answer this question for me.

First off, you need 10 to become trusted and 5 to stay trusted, not 5 to become trusted. Those rules are out of date. Trust points are ratings other people give you based on your helpfulness, trustworthyness (if thats a word...), and overall additude. I believe that trusted members get access to other forums that members can't access. You need 5 to be able to rate someone else, either positively or negitively. 10 points are needed, I believe, so that one person can't make a member trusted.

I just wanted to add that it's basically a popularity contest.  Be polite, post things people like, make yourself well known and you're bound to get some.    Just have patience if it takes time.  Some people got trusted within an hour because they're online friends got them to register and then immediately rated them (which seems unfair), and other people are here for years before getting a trusted status.

It's a flawed system and there's a plan to fix it, but it won't be implemented for some time.  So for now, just take the advice given here and you should be fine.
