So my only question is what are trust points? I have had someone give them to me but I am not sure what they really are. If anyone can help me with this I would be most grateful, it isn't that important of a question and doesn't need to be taken that seriously.

Secondly, this is answered in many places, in many threads, and in the FAQ. 

To answer however, TP are given you for various things.  Other users who ARE trusted can rate you based off your personality, how polite you are, if you follow all the rules, or the quality of your threads.....

More than anything it almost seems to be a popularity contest.  Once you get 5, you can rate other people, and once you get 10 you are considered a trusted member.  That's pretty much all it does.

Well like Singelli said, Trust Points are a part of a trust point system in which a trusted member can award trust points to other members for various reasons. Members may also lose trust points for any bad actions they take. In order to become a trusted member, you must have 10 or more tusted. Once you become trusrted, you remain trusted (disregarding any promotions or bans) until you fall to 4 or less trust points. It is a bit of a popularity contest, and one of the biggest places that can raise or ruin the amount of trust points you have is the chat room.

As for rating, the amount of trust points you can be rewarded (or taken away) depends on how many trust points the person who is rewarding (or penalizing) you has. If the member has:

5-14 Trust Points: -1, 0, +1
15-24 Trust Points: -2, -1, 0, +1, +2
25-49 Trust Points: -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3
50-99 Trust Points: -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +4
