How about Dino Crisis? Never has a sequel been such an udder letdown for me. I was hooked on the first one, so I got the second one and told my sister she had to check it out, because it was going to be awesome. We put it in, and not five minutes into it I was left wondering what the heck am I playing? This can't be dino crisis. It was ok, but nothing compared to it's predecessor.

Pretty much all games that have sequels are like this to people. It's sequel syndrome.

If you loved the first game, you're expecting the next game to give you the same exact experience... but realistically, it won't because it's not the same game. It's a different one and most people feel let down by this. But what's the point in making a new game if it's not any different than the previous one? You can just play the first if you want the first.

Also if developers DO try to carbon copy their first game for a sequel, they run the risk of it being considered boring, so you can't really win either way. Only the really good/crafty developers can avoid this when they can take the first game and make significant improvements on it, while otherwise keeping it the same, yet different enough at the same time. It's hard to do though and more often than not, they fail (according to the fans anyway)

I think the obvious one is Super Mario Bros. 2. I don't think that it should count, since the actual sequel was amazing, but some people still say that SMB2 was a sequel and the worst in the series, when it wasn't even supposed to be a Mario game. But one that I found to be a bad sequel would be Donkey Kong Country 2. It just didn't seem to have as much fun as the first.

patar4097 : I have the complete reverse opinion. I loved the US Super Mario Bros. 2 because it was so different and interesting whereas the real SMB2 (Lost Levels) was just a rehash of the original game made harder... BORING.

And Donkey Kong Country 2 was easily my favorite Donkey Kong game ever... easily the best in the series if you ask me.

Actually sequels  is most likely a good thing. Most of them are good, at least the ones I have seen. Don't count DMC 2 though, that one wasn't that good. (Devil May Cry for anyone who doesn't know what that meant.) I have never played "Dino Crisis", so I guess it would be fun to try that out.
