Oldschool41 : The Ravens just aren't a team SF matches up against well. I think their D will cause problems for a team like the Niners. The Pats on the other hand already lost to SF this year so that's my only real basis for that.

Alright. Because I am actually on a computer, I can make a lengthy post, and explain my reasoning this time.

The Ravens versus the Patriots:

The Ravens have been underdogs for both rounds of the playoffs thus far. So, I am going to say the Ravens win this one, 42-34 with Ray Lewis getting another 15+ tackle game, and even a forced fumble, AND an interception.

49ers versus the Falcons:

The 49ers should have this one. The brothers are back in their respective conference championship games for the 2nd year in a row. They will both win. The 49ers got this one, 28-18.

That means I am predicting a Harbough Bowl rematch, this time, Super Bowl style.

I want to see the Harbaugh Bros. go at it in the Super Bowl since they almost did it last year. Them making it to their conference games itself was the biggest collision course brewing since Jaguars and Panthers made it to their conference games in only their second year in the league.
Only way I can see Ravens losing is if they are 4th and Goal at the 1 down 27-21. Someone yells "SPIKE" and the Flacco spikes the ball.

I figure I update everyone about the coaching situation.

Head Coachs

1. Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs hired ex-Eagles coach Andy Reid. I'm quite surprised that Kansas City would be the team to land Reid, as like the Eagles there is a QB controversy going on in Kansas City about what to do with Matt Cassell. Also I believe that Kansas City's best WR Dwyane Bowe is a free agent, so while they might franchise him; I'm sure Bowe won't sign another deal.

There is an interesting note I should point out. Once Payton Manning retires (3-4 years maybe), the AFC West is wide open as...

1. We don't know how the Broncos will do once Manning leaves.
2. The Chargers by then would lose their Star TE Antonio Gates, leaving QB Philip Rivers without a go-to reciever and safety net (of course the Chargers might pick up a go-to reciever by then).
3. The Raiders while not to be overlooked are still not a playoff ready team.

So I think Kansas City is hoping that Reid can help KC dominate the AFC West once the Manning-Broncos era comes to an end.

2. Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills hired Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone. Marrone is credited with help changing around the Syracuse Orange Football program; but beyond that I'm not sure what Marrone brings to the Bills. Right now the Bills need some more weapons on offense and hope that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick stops making crutal mistakes. I think you'll see the Bills defense become what people expected it to be when they signed Mario Williams when he was a Free Agent last off-season.

3. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns hired Rob Chudzinski who was the Carolina Panther's offensive coordinator. Like the Bills hiring Doug Marrone, I don't know much about Chudzinski. So I will be interested to see what he does and brings to the Browns.

4. Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears hired Marc Trestman who was a head coach in the CFL (Canadian Football League). As a Bears fan I think this was a solid hire as Trestman has a good recond, but of course we don't know how he will do in the toughest division in the NFL (arguementative). I'm liking the moves that GM Jerry Angelo is making with the Bears thou, seems like he is making all the right decisions (only downside is that he didn't draft O-Line in the draft).

5. Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles hired Oregon Ducks coach Chip Kelly. This is big news as it was reported the Kelly was going to stay at Oregon last week. A couple of thoughts on this.

1. Everyone keeps talking about how Oregon is going to get sanctions for recruting violations. If that is true, then I can see why Kelly wanted out of Oregon.
2. The Mike Vick QB situation is going to interesting to watch. Since Kelly likes to use the spread offense, Mike Vicks speed would fit in well in Kelly's system. However since Nick Foles looked decent during the end of the season and Foles did play in the spread offense when he was in the University of Arizona. Going to be interesting to watch non the less.

6. San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers hired Broncos Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy. Its a good hire, but its going to depend on how McCoy adjusts to handling offense as he loses Manning and gets Philip Rivers who at times looks great and at times looks terrible. Going to be interesting to watch non the less.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars hired Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley. Its a good hire as we've seen the Seahawks defense look really solid. If Bradley can turn the Jaguars defense into something similar to what he had when he was the Defense coordinator in Seattle, I would be impressed. But of course the main issue in Jacksonville is who starts at QB (Blaine Gabbert or Chad Hanne), what to do with MJD (who is coming back from injury), and what to do with the offense (which Blackmon, Shorts 3 started to play good down the stretch).

8. Arizona Cardinals

Edit: The Cardinals hired Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. A great hire by the Cardinals. Hopefully they get their QB situation fixed, the O-Line healthy, and get a Running Back.

Some other important notes.

Norv Turner- Got hired by the Cleveland Browns to be the new Offensive Coordinator. Thats a great hire if you have Norv Turner as your offensive coordinator (never mind his Head Coaching record with San Diego).

Edit: Ken Whisenhunt- Got hired by the San Diego Chargers to be the offense coordinator. Not sure how this would do. Whisenhunts' offense with Kurt Warner was pretty good. Question is will Philip Rivers have similar effects?

Time for my predictions.

San Francisco @ Atlanta: 49ers win 35-31.

Baltimore @ New England: Patriots win 34-31

So my Superbowl is the 49ers and Patriots.

49ers vs Ravens in Super Bowl.

Not like it matters. Fluke wins have been the story of this post season.

Right now, the Falcons are ahead, 24-21, with 5:47 left in the 3rd. If the 49ers can keep their momentum going, and not miss a field goal by hitting the left upright, they should be able to get the game winning drive.

I'm really happy for the 49ers. I will be rooting for them in the Super Bowl. Would be nice to see a "Harbaugh bowl" but I don't see the Ravens winning 3 road games in a row to get to the Super Bowl. You never know though.

As far as the 49ers go, Kapernick keeps impressing me. I have been rooting for the kid ever since he schooled my Bears. No matter what happens he looks poised. Even when his defense totally lets him down and spots the Falcons 10 with 3 mins left in the 1st quarter..heck 17-0 at one point.
The Falcons even game planned well and took away the Rush lanes for Kaepernick ...and he stuck in the pocket and delivered the ball. Very impressive for a kid who hasn't even started a full NFL season worth of games.

The 49ers are now where they should have been last year. Now that they have the Super Bowl opportunity, will they actually be able to win it though?

If the Pats go again, this will really be a chance for SF to redeem themselves as that would have been who they'd have played last year had Kyle Williams not botched the Giants game.

On the flip-side, we still have a Ravens team that is very motivated to give their future hall-of-famer a ring his last season in the NFL. It's going to take everything a team has to take Baltimore out of this one, I feel.

Well the Falcons lost after an early 17-0 lead, they got out scored 28-7. Congrats to the 49ers and hopefully they can win the Super Bowl if the Patriots beat the Ravens. Speaking of which I said the Pats will win but of the 9 games played so far only 3 of my predictions have been correct so who knows.

With about 6 minutes left in the game; the Ravens are winning 28-13 and they get the ball after a tipped pass interception.

As for the earlier game; I'm glad the 49ers won. Kappy keeps impressing me. Again the Falcons blow a huge lead, except this time they lose. If the Falcons had scored when they had the ball inside the SF 10 yard line; most likely it would have had a similar end to the Seahawks game.

My prediction was wrong. What a surprise!
Anyways, it looks like the Baltimore Ravens will take on the San Fransisco 49ers in Super Bowl XVIII and Ray Lweis is guaranteed his last game of his career in the Super Bowl (I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate legacyme3 on correctly guessing the Super Bowl matchup). As for who I think will win, I want to say the San Fransisco 49ers but being as only 30% of my guesses have been correct I wouldn't be surprised if I end up wrong. I do however think it will be a tight game and a very fun one to watch.

Here is the official betting thread for the super bowl:
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=53206
As for the predictions, I predicted both games corectly, but man, were my score predictions were off.

I do not know who will win the Super Bowl. It could go either way. It will be one heck of a game. My room mate is a 49ers fan, so we are throwing a barracks party in our rooms. We are going to have a blast. I want the Ravens to win, though, becuase they are my team.

Hmm. Who would have thought the Ravens would beat the Colts, Broncos, and Patriots to get too the Superbowl? I don't think a lot of people would have.

That being said, congradulations Ravens. Looks like Ray Lewis' announcement about his retirement was a smart thing to do. Made the Ravens team really step up to help get him another Superbowl.

As for the matchup. 49ers and Ravens is going to be a great matchup.

Well as you can see in this thread I had my doubts that the Ravens could win in DENVER much less follow it up with a great win on the road against the Pats. Give them credit, they kept the game close going into half then made the Pats pay when they needed to.

The Ravens were hitting the Pats players HARD on each of those short throws/runs and really the Pats couldn't throw the ball downfield at all.

The *Harbowl as it has been dubbed the matchup against two coaching brothers should be a lot of fun.

I predict that the 49ers will win. Baltimore has not faced a mobile QB since week 13 against RG3. I think it will be tough for them to stop a well balanced team like that.

Oldschool41 :

Based off season performance, I picked them to lose to each team. I didnt account for a simple fact.

Regular season means nothing in the playoffs.

I picked the Ravens to win 28-24.I learned my lesson. Wasnt far off.

As for tge super bowl... I'll pick the Ravens winning 24-23. I may change my mind.

I kinda saw this coming but I was hoping it wouldn't. Baltimore was riding far too much momentum to be slowed down by the Patriots. There's a really good chance Ray Lewis goes out on top as a champion.

I'm calling it right now. The Baltimore Ravens are this year's Superbowl Champion and here's why:

San Fransisco is a run-based team. Their biggest threat is on the ground. Even their QB is most dangerous when he takes off and runs. He can throw, sure... but he's not the best passer in the league. Not even close. It's his legs that really make him a threat.

Baltimore has a really good defense and specifically, a run defense. A good run-stop defense is not a favorable match-up for a run-based offense. Something has to give and since I don't feel SF has an elite ground game, I'm going to say they're what gives.

Baltimore also still has that momentum I've been mentioning. They've been the underdogs in all their games and still succeeded. The team is extra motivated to win one for Ray. There are so many elements of the human factor that favors the Ravens in this one. I don't think the Niners really have what it takes to overcome what they're facing.

Also a year ago, these two teams met in the regular season. In a tightly contested game, the Ravens out-played the Niners for the win. This Niner team doesn't actually look THAT much better than it did a year ago. It has some new tricks, but overall, I think they're still at the same level. The Ravens, on the other hand, are playing at a higher level than they were a year ago. The evidence is in how well of a playoff run they've put together this year compared to how the fell short last. Now before anyone points out that you can say the same thing about SF, I maintain that the main reason they didn't go to the Super Bowl was due to freak accidents of shoddy punt returning and weren't actually out-played but their opponents.

The last thing to consider is David Akers. This game could all come down to a Field Goal and Akers has not proven that he can actually reliably kick them lately. He could be the very thing that costs the Niners the Super Bowl this year because they're not enough better than the Ravens skill-wise that they can still win anyway if they're botching field goals.

Anyway, this is going to be a really good Super Bowl. The match-up between these brothers always promises to be a great show, so this is a game worthy of a Super Bowl... a great finale to this season.

In the end, I see the Ravens being victorious by a score of 35 to 28.

Alright the HarBowl is on although it was delayed last year. It begs the question... whose side will the parents be on.
