So I've been gone from vizzed for a while, and I'm not trying to insult anyone, but I have noticed that the quality of post has really declined. Many of the newer post I've looked at are just remakes of older posts, and the few post that I think are really good are completely buried by other generic posts. Am I the only one that thinks this?

Not really, no. It's been like that for awhile now though, since some people only make token posts here to get Viz to play games.

You could always change what you don't like.  If you think the threads being made are poorly done, be an example to everyone else.  I personally see nothing wrong with the quality of vizzed, considering its population's general age.  Besides that, it's normal that the same topics are getting brought up.  It's not like there are infinite topics to discuss.  Also, most sites have cliques that come and go.  Once each clique circles out and a new generation of users comes in..... well everything they post is new from their perspective.  The only people who would know topics are being repeated, are those that survived the short lifespans of each clique, and stayed with each passing generation of users.

I'm not sure if I made any sense there, but that's the way I see it.  In conclusion, I think vizzed is just wonderful.    And though some threads are lower quality, there are enough good ones to make up for it all.

FredElliot :
That was more simply and better put.  LOL
I've always held the belief that you shouldn't whine about a problem unless you can offer a solution.

(That's not an attack on the original poster, so don't take it that way.)
Sometimes new users need more experienced users to serve as role models, so if you don't like the quality of vizzed, improve it!  Show the newer users how to do it!

Generally, good posts are made by people who have something interesting to say. But such people only say something when they actually DO have something interesting to say.

By contrast, people with nothing interesting to say talk most often and most loudly. It's the way of the world.

I agree with Singelli. Since I am a fairly new person to this site, its hard to come up with what people would want to talk about, especially since the general age for this site is about 13 to 16.  I am 19, and I have to be careful with what I should talk about, because I always have to remember that there are younger teens on this website. However, if you think the posts value has declined, maybe you could try and come up with a lot of good topics to get people to realize that some of their posts aren't as top notch as others.

When you look at the general age of folks here and you think about what is important to them, of course it's going to be what kind of soda you drink or when do you go to bed.

We already have more than enough sub-groups but an adult subgroup would maybe be interesting.  There are subgroups for sports, religion, relationships, culture, and so on.... I guess you should start posting more interesting questions to get things going.  You are, though, dealing with middle school and high schoolers.  Any time you want to ask a good question, I'll try to get to it before it gets covered by the ol' fashioned "Give a comment about the person above you."

Lastly, you can probably find more intellectually stimulating conversation in other locations.  This is really built for video games.  I talk on here every now and then but I'm here for NES games, not to have conversations.  I reserve that for other places and friends in real life.  This isn't something I take seriously. I have had a few serious answers and I ask some serious questions but otherwise it's pretty fluffy stuff.

Lower your expectations, friend.  Especially on here.

There are many people that post in the manner they would like to see, it doesn't seem to do much. I know from my personal standpoint that I have seen a massive change in the post quality of this site since I joined back when I was a teenager (long before the RGR came along)... 90% of the posts today would have been labeled as spam back then. I feel old.

Even though I haven't been on the board the whole time I've been here, I notice it too. I think that it is more that the ages the people posting seems to be younger than the older posts. But also I think that part of it is that there are some members that are probably more spammy than others. Not pointing fingers, or at specific people, because I don't pay that much attention to who posts, but it does seem that way.

I figure the real reason is because people are just to lazy to actually care to make a quality post. The only thing they probably see in making a post is just because you get Viz for doing it. But the more you say, the more Viz you get, so the only real explanation it could be is just because nobody cares about making a quality post. It COULD be age but hey, I'm 15 and make 1000+ reviews, so I wouldn't really count the age factor.

I dont think the quality is much lower, its just that there are less serious members active now.
I can recall exactly in my mind when it started to slide with the gradual exit of certain members. I used to average 40 posts a day, thats how active it was at the peak i saw, and i wasnt the highest either.
The more members disapeared the more others got bored and followed suit.
If you wanted to change things i think you'd need about 6 or 7 people dedicated to kickstarting things.
But there was still plenty junk back then, just masked by the core member base.

you guys have no idea how long this conversation has been going on... for about as long as the board has been around people have considered the quality as going downhill. Simple fact is that more often than not it's just turnover in the userbase and people aren't used to the new people or like what they want to talk about.

Lazlo Falconi : Good point, and often how I feel about things.

I'm certainly not "old" but I have been around long enough to see the beginning how computer in the home and the Internet have changed people in some ways and immortalized the things unchanged in other ways.

This is not meant as a crabby rant, though, it does bug me: the fact that people used to be able to spend time by themselves happily, enjoy their conversations with friends in person (or send letters through the mail with a stamp), and love being with their families as much as possible. Much of this has not changed (except for the letters in the mail), but it seems now everyone needs to be connected to everyone that they know online at all times. Look at how many people seem to be on their cell phones chatting, Tweeting, and Facebooking constantly. And the more time you are doing the same thing, the more dull the conversation becomes.

It's hard to come up with brand new things to say hour after hour, day after day, year after year. If not by the same person, the new generation that comes in who were not in the middle of things said before, instead of going back and just reading start the same questions over, likely because they want to communicate, not just sit "alone" and read what others said a year ago.

That brings up another point as well: the number of people who ask questions online who themselves are interested in what others have to say, but for the people answering, you may have 1 out of every 5 to 10 who take the time to read what others have said in the topic. They want to get out what they have to say and move on. The rest of the conversation isn't important to them (unless an argument
starts, and then people who haven't posted in years want to have their say as well.) If you happen to jump into a topic that already has a bunch of replies, how many of you have regularly taken the time to read all of the previous 20, 30, or 50 posts in that topic?

On many occasions I have introduced myself with a long post or answered something in great detail, and the response that I get by a few is, "Too much to read. I'll read it later." (and they never do.) Why is it too much to read? You're sitting here just killing time. Take the time to acknowledge what others have said instead of always feeling the need to post right away and rush off (hence an answer to the original question.)

As I said when I first joined, I am quite the rambler (obviously,) but much of what I have to say comes from reactions by others as I read their posts as well. The more you read, the less time you have to post. That in turn can result in wanting to make each of your posts really count for something, and therefore you put more "work" into them.
