What are some dirty secrets about your current or previous job that most people don't know about but would find shocking? It could also be the job of someone you know.

Wow.... did you design this thread for me? LOL

Well, most of what I would share has been heard at some point or another in the news, so I supposed there's not much I could reveal, per se.

For example, principals do ask their teachers to change grades.  In fact, nearly every principal does, so that the school looks good and the school continues to get funding.  The ones you hear about on the news are simply the unlucky ones in which a teacher stood their ground about it.  (Yes, that's how rare teachers protest it.)

Singelli : You gave me the idea but I didn't make this thread to get information out of you lol. I just figured it'd be interesting to get information out of former employees of stores or restaurants we've all heard of.

For example, a friend of mine worked at a really fancy restaurant, one of those restaurants that cost a ton of money. It appears nice but the behind the scenes wasn't. He told me that in the kitchen and storage areas, they'd get mice.

The dirtiest thing you can do in any job is suck the bosses cock.

Unfortunately, you have to if you want to keep your job. Else you can make your own company and people can start sucking you off.

Currently, I feel like I am getting gang raped by jews and indians (no offense). How dirty is it? Well, if the entire world is sucking the same sausage (google for instance) it must be pretty dirty. They are not even using condoms anymore they give you Search Transmitted Disease and infect your website. If you are a whore with lots of traffic and monies, feds with rape your site then kill you afterwards.

People who say internet porn is dirty have not seen anything yet, its going to get real dirty soon and hopefully people notice what is going on.

Davideo7 : Yep.  I worked at a bed and breakfast and it had a tiny kitchen.  The place was gorgeous, ranted and raved about in all the papers, and charged more than a pretty penny.  But they had mice.  And the owner tried many times to get me to serve molding strawberries because she didn't want to buy new ones.  I mean, the container would be half molded, and she'd pick through the box and say, "Look, here's a good one!" before chiding me because I didn't decorate the plate with the red and white fruit.

JigSaw : That reminds me of when Bill Clinton was President, I guess that's a dirty secret about being President lol

Singelli : You'd think with all of the money that these fancy restaurants get, they would be able to afford to be more up kept.

I worked in a cafe and it was quite well known, but in the kitchen, all sorts went on.  The woman in charge would freak out every half hour so two of the waiters would pick her up and put her in the chill room to cool down.  It was air tight so she'd be banging on the window, screaming but no one could hear anything.  After 10 minutes she'd be fine.  But it was a very dodgy practice.  I got fired for spending too long on cleaning the plates.

I work at a mental health center right now (have for a few years). Main thing that is crap there is how they always talk about how the way they do things is always for the best interest of the kids. But really, it is to squeeze as much money from the insurance companies as possible. For example, I am an Attendant Care worker. Our job is supposed to be one where the kids get to leave their homes once or twice a week where they can get out into the community for a bit and we can see how they are progressing with social goals that their case managers set for them. But the center allows parents to pretty much use it as a babysitting service that their insurance company gets to pay for. They allow them to get Attendant Care schedule for their work ridiculous things. For example, I worked with one kid who's adoptive parents don't like taking him on their family vacations or things like that. So every time they have a family trip or a fun weekend plan, they just call the mental health center to watch over him at the Crisis House so they don't have to take him with them. The Crisis House is supposed to be for Crisis situations, but because they can bill a lot of hours, they allow them to use it as a drop off center for when the parents don't want to deal with their kid for a while.

Also, for our paperwork, they force us to use specific words because certain words allow them to bill the insurance companies for more money. After working for the mental health center for a few years, I have grown to really hate the public mental health care system. They say it is all about helping the 'clients' more capable of living in the community, but they are just trying to squeeze money from the insurance companies all they can.

hmmm - I would have thought that an assessment would be carried out before someone could be admitted to a 'Crisis' centre.  What a weird system.  Frustrating.

I worked at IHOP a pancake house and our health and wellness morals were down in the gutter. We have passed with Ds and Cs so many times. It was awful working there and as you know only one man can do so much, no matter how much I cleaned or picked up after other employees it was dirty the next day.

I heard a rumor that it was going to shut down so they were more lenient on the employees, but cutting corners on cleanliness and things like that should be a big no no. The managers just didn't care anymore except about squeezing as much money out of the company as possible before they shut it down. It was sickening and there was nothing I could do like complain to the managers or owners because they were the source of all the problems. I saw things that I don't even want to repeat it was so disgusting

rcarter2 : I've got bad news for you, that's not just the mental health system. That's all health systems. But can you really blame them? If they don't squeeze as much money out of insurance as they can, they can't afford to buy new equipment and facilities to help. It's a sad way to go about things but that's the way it is.

Anyway, I don't know if I should say anything bad about my job. It might put your whole idea of "National security" out the window!

Well, I'm only fourteen so I haven't had a real job before...But it felt wrong to come on this thread and not comment so...yeah. Like Jiggy said the dirtiest thing would be Blowing someone to keep a job and I don't really have that much to say other than that.

rcarter2 :
My friend actually checked herself into one of the health care centers as a means to get over a few issues she was having. The place essentially as you described; pinched every penny, met minimum requirements (sometimes not even) so they could continue getting money from people's insurances. They treated her awful, tried to threaten her, saying they could take away her free insurance (which they couldn't, just they were used to getting people who were mandated into their program) just because she raised a concern that she felt this was not helping her at all. I was hoping this was just the case for her place, but it seems it runs rampant around the country.

As for my current job, I haven't seen any dirty secrets really. I work at Fed Ex as a package handler, and the only thing worth noting is all packages get treated the same, pretty much. Does not matter if it is fragile, a television, or one of those alienware computers we seem to keep getting orders for, it will be tossed around, dropped, or even fall on its own accord sometimes. We are told to simply place as many packages in a trailer as fast as we can. Stopping to take any sort of special care for a package slows us down too much.

Particularly, if you have a heavy package, it WILL be dropped or suffer from rough handling; we can only hold, push, and carry these things for so long.

Before Fed Ex, I worked at target, and the worst I saw there was mice and roaches in their fast food area. It was why they got rid of their taco bell; they kept finding pests in the "fresh" ingredients. With frozen things, they had less to worry about.

ruesen : Those are actually different things. I don't work at a mental hospital/treatment facility. I am what is called an Attendant Care worker. The center I work for works with kids that have mental issues ranging from simple ADD/ADHD to severe autism and even mental retardation. There are therapists, case managers, case workers, after school program workers, Attendant Care workers, etc. The kids have behavioral or development goals that are designed to help them learn to cope with their mental challenges so they may be able to live more comfortably in their everyday lives. These goals range from school behaviors, home behaviors, routine developments, coping skills, etc. These kids still live with their families. My job is somewhat similar to what they do with the big brothers/big sisters program. I have a list of kids that I work with weekly. I have appointments with them (times range depending on the kid), and I spend time with them, take them out in the community if possible, and that kind of stuff. But I have their list of goals that they are working on with their case managers and therapists. My job is to help them work on some of those goals each session, so taking them out in the community is important. So it really is in no way like the facility that your friend checked into.

The issue that I have is that the mental health center allows parents to manipulate the crap out of Attendant Care workers. Instead of using us for our true purpose, they want to use us as a free babysitters program so they can go do whatever they want or just not have to deal with their kids for a few hours. Because more appointments means more money from their insurance, the mental health center sees no problem with this and just denies that it is being reduced to free babysitting.
