I honestly think the end of the world will come because of our own polution. Global warming. Diminishing bee population. ETC.

Contamination is becoming pretty hard to combat yet people don't seem to want to do anything about it. Some people don't even believe it's happening...lol

In theroy (for those whom belive in the scientistic version) the Earth was created through the Big Bang.  Many scientists say that if the world (even the universe) were to end it would be with the Big Crunch.
In the theroy of the Big Bang Billions of atoms exploted, thus flaying far and wide creating our universe.
So they think that once the things in space have hit the end, it will begin going the other way, finally crunching together just like when it started.
But that will take billions if not trillions of years.  If only the Earth were to end though my guess would be when the Sun goes into its Red giant stage where it will continuesly grow until it explodes, devouring the Earth.
Also not Schedualed to happen for billions of years.
My last guess is a large metor which would block out the sun killing the plant life we depend on for oxygen and food.

I figure that "the world" being the Earth, will end like it should, the Sun shall expand and engulf the Earth. No Daleks, no nukes, no pollution.

But, Bee Extinction would be a possibility.

I think the best reason is by the sun. If the sun die and turn into a black hole then the Earth is doom. This going to happen one day.

Hmmm... The Sun will be an Super giant and destroy The inner planets such as, Mercury, Venus, Earth (OUR PLANET!!), and Mars. I am pretty sure this will happen, or something else might happen before this.

A nuclear war will end the world especially since a lot of nations now are obtaining nuclear power and I think North Korea will start this nuclear war because apparently the have nuclear weapons that actually work for a change so now they can back up their threats to bomb other countries.

It depends on your meaning of "world". If you mean human kind, then I think that we might die in some kind of super volcano eruption (ie. Yellowstone Eruption), or just by killing the environment so much that we can't survive. It is possible if we survive in to the distant future that our Solar System could be sucked up by some super-massive black hole. If you are talking about Earth, than Earth will either be swallowed up by a black hole or be destroyed by the sun.

to be honest i think its utterly obvious that the cause of the destruction of worlds will lay in the hands of humanity..
even so i think humanity will not last for th next 2 mileniums. and the planet will only last for 200 mileniums before colepsing. for the universe.. i think it needs like a  trilion of bilion light years to be completely gone..
the universe is th most bigest mystery that mankind known.. there is just no end to the universe... so i don't think the universe will ever vanish.. maybe the planets in it.. but they will eventually grow back the same way how they where first created.. a mass off material coming together to create "a planet".
For the sun.. i think the sun we currently have will last for the next 50000 light years. after that eventually a new sun wil arise..

a never ending progess in a endless universe..

Greetings to all, Yngwie

I have thought about this subject quit a bit. The inevitable answer to this is the sun will die as all stars do and destroy the Earth, so other options would be an all out nuclear war that shatters the planet, and asteroid, and aliens come and destroy the Earth are some of the endings I think about.

I think man will end the world. With all this pollution we are pumping into the environment it's only going to screw with the environment even more. We will probably end up destroying ourselves in war before pollution will get to us though.

This is actually what I finished teaching my 7th graders. For everyone who keeps saying the sun will become a black hole, you are wrong. Our sun is not even really a medium size star. When our star begins to run out of Hydrogen to put through Nuclear Fusion, it will swell larger. It will engulf all the rocky planets, and get about as far as Jupiter. It will then die out and leave a white dwarf behind.

But our earth will be a dead planet before then. Tectonic activity is essential for land to continue forming. Tectonic activity happens with heat energy from the active core. That core is not infinite in energy. It will run out. So there will be no more volcanic eruption and no more tectonic activity. That means no more land formation. Without that, the oceans will eventually erode away all the land. However, with a dead core means no magnetic field around our planet. This is what happened to Mars. When you have no magnetic field from an active core, you have nothing protecting you from Solar Wind from the sun. Like it did to Mars, solar wind will rip apart the atmosphere and hydrosphere. Since water is essential for almost all life on Earth, the biosphere will be wiped out. Our planet will be dead before it gets engulfed by the sun. But the sun will be the official end of Earth. At least that is what is inevitable. Not saying something else unplanned couldn't do the job first.

rcarter2 :   Nice work. You beat me to that response. After swelling out past the inner solar system it basically "sheds" its body. Doing no more destruction then it already caused. Our sun isn't even large enough to go Super Nova when it "dies". That disappoints me for some reason.

I REALLY hope mankind isn't responsible for their own demise. Besides us, I feel the most likely ways for us to go would be, another asteroid/meteorite hitting the Earth or the Super Volcano blocking the sunlight and destroying vegetation. I'll take the meteor. Seems faster. Less chaos and struggling.

Halley's Comet will collide with the moon.  It will go supernova and create a black hole.  Earth will be swallowed whole.  We will not be destroyed (yet), but be teleported via the wormhole to another galaxy where other humans live on a planet called Caprica.  Then Cylons will come and nuke us.  So who thinks comets are cool?

Seriously, God will end it and create a "new heaven and a new earth". Would you like to know more? Dial: R-E-P-L-Y

Obviously squids will gain extremely high levels of intelligence from ocean pollution and take over the world with their newly built legs made from kelp and sunken ship parts. So be warned. I heard their very dangerous. But if that doesn't happen, we can always worry about us just generally destroying each other. I'll be in my squid proof fort hiding.

Yeah, I am going to agree with craz232 here because there is said to be the opposite of the big bang which is the big crunch which is supposed to destroy everything and end the universe. Also though when the sun expands and balloons into its red giant stage, it will swallow the inner planets and that includes the Earth since the diameter of the sun is going to rapidly skyrocket. We have billions upon billions of years until this happens so no need to worry. But for now my main concerns for us if we should want to continue living would be to stop polluting the ozone, our only protection against the sun's harmful rays, and we are supposed to hit 10 to 11 billion within the next 40 years or so, overpopulation of people outpacing Earth's resources might be another important factor in determining when the world will be overpopulated an when it may end.

SoL@R: cool theory, I have never heard it before, where did you find this from?

With the number of asteroids that have come incredibly close to Earth in the past few years without us knowing until the last minute, and over half of them being the size that would be considered global killers, it is fairly likely that one could hit earth in the near future.  That being said, I doubt it would end the world, but the end of mankind.  I feel that we as a species will most likely be the demise of the planet with our arrogance and lust for resources that lead us to war.
