I don't know. Haven't played this one yet. But if the problem is that you need to level up, you can just use the space bar. Just make a good attack the first move in his move set, then hold onto space bar when you are in a grassy area. Then just press whatever you have set as "a", and you will level up a lot quicker. Hope this helps.
