Disclaimer: In the following post, as I type it, I am not writing any words in all caps. At most, I am capitalizing the first letter, and I will indicate which I am doing in parentheses after each use of the term .

So, because it's mostly brought up in the debate forum, I don't know if this is board-wide... but the word "UNION" is being written in all caps when you submit a post. (that time I did all lower-case)

I noticed this when there was a debate about UNIONs and I criticized someone for writing the word in all caps... because it's not an acronym. I thought it was the person that did it, now I know better.

Today I was writing about President Lincoln and I referred to the country as the UNION (cap on the U only that time) to differentiate it from the rebelling southern states. When I hit "post" it capitalized the entire word. I edited it, and fixed it, then made a comment that it had autocapped the entire word "UNION" (again, only the U)... and that word showed up in all caps (it's still there in the post) so I made a note with arrows and came here.

Why on earth does the board feel the need to write the word UNION (all lower) in all capital letters? Can we fix this because it is really annoying?

That might be the strangest case of auto-correct I've ever seen... most boards do stuff like censor bad words by either using asterisks or changing them to other words entirely... or if the owner has a sense of humor, just changing random words to silly words as part of some gag... but all-capping a random word?

Never seen it do this with any other words so far.

The word 'union' is a common word used for hacking a database. In fact, hackers in the past have many times used that word to try and hack into the DB, most were unsuccessful but there was a case of 1 user who was successful. So as part of the vizzed security that I've created, the board attempts to modify the word so that it cannot be used to a hacker's advantage. It didn't do this to just the word union but it also did it to any word containing union, such as communion or reunion.

Anyways, I just went in and modified the code and it should no longer do that. If it did it to your post already, it wont auto fix your post but you should be able to edit your post to fix it yourself.

Davideo7 : Oh, that's very interesting to know, actually!  But if it's a security measure, shouldn't it be kept?  It doesn't bother anyone THAT badly, I'm sure!  LOL  I'd rather your site was safe.

Singelli : I was able to keep the security, I simply modified it so that it's less noticeable/annoying. I don't want to post the full details of my modification to it in the public though

Davideo7 : That makes a lot of sense actually. I never imagined a single word could somehow be used to hack a database. That's crazy... but yeah, if it's for security, I understand. Also glad you found a way to still modify the string without making it look weird on the board. Best of both worlds.
