I was curious to know if anything special ever takes place on Halloween here on Vizzed? Can anyone fill me in? And if there isn't, maybe we should do something special on that night?

Even just a little color scheme change of black and orange would be pretty cool. Or maybe a candy hunt that gets sprinkled around the site randomly where if you click them, you get a small bit of Viz. For that though, we would need someone willing to code something like that, and probably make sure they are not always in the same place so people do not just link people to them.

I would say to do something with costumes, but I do not know how we could incorporate that with the forum... besides taking pictures of ourselves in full costumes for a contest perhaps?

Maybe someone could host a contest for the best Halloween costumes and award Viz to the winner... though figuring out how to fairly judge might be difficult.

That's just what "costumes" made me think of. I know there has have to be better ideas for things that can be done...

Maybe a story writing contest? Best scary otherwise Halloween-themed story wins viz?

Actually, you just sparked a few ideas in me by mentioning a story writing contest.

We could have a Halloween picture contest, where people can enter different forms of picture they create or take a photo of. This can range from decorations on their house, a nice Halloween themed drawn picture, picture of a costume and so on. If enough people participate, we probably could break these contests into topics (pictures, drawn, costumes, decorations).

Could also have a pumpkin carving contest (or incorporate it with the picture contest); picture with the most impressive or unique picture of the pumpkin being a winner. Just, there are a lot of pictures out there of unique carvings, so we would probably need verification that it is really theirs by including their screen name somewhere in the picture.

Now, all contest are going to be a bit hard for judging, because if we leave it to the public, people may end up voting just for the favorite people instead of favorite entry. We could try having it anonymous where we submit entries via PM only, and anyone who tries to advertise their entry gets disqualified, but that seems a bit... restrictive. So perhaps it would be best to just have long-time staff to make as judges?

I think we need to first decide who is interested in the ideas to find out what contests will even be held. This might be worth a separate topic gathering all the possible ideas and finding the interest level in each.

Then we need to decide who will host each contest. The host makes the contest thread and rules and picks a panel of judges amongst members they trust to be fair. Neither the host nor the judges should be allowed to enter that contest though. For this reason, we'll need hosts/judges who are interested in the general idea but wouldn't be entering that specific contest (they can enter others though).
