Oo  That's so weird.  I've actually NEVER heard it pronounced 'skon' anywhere in my life.  Where do you live, that you hear it pronounced that way?  Then again, not many people around here use the word and I didn't even know of its existence until I was in college

I pronounce it scone, rhyming with cone. I imagine that's probably the way most people pronounce it.

Anyway, this doesn't really fit into debate, so I'll move it to polls and questions.

Never heard that word before either, but I just pronounced it with a loud s, then the word cons. So it's like this:

(loud) s, (normal) cone.

I've already pronounced Scone as in SK-Own. (So, rhyming with "cone", I suppose) I've never heard it pronounced any other way either. TV, Movies, South, North... I've always heard it pronounced as if it rhymed with "cone".

I would have pronounced it scon. The reason why is because the word scone looks French and I know that the letter "e" in French can be silent sometimes.
