Quick question to anyone who may know the answer: is there a possibility of incorporating Game cube, Ps2, or original Xbox games on the Retro Game Room? They are considered "collectible" by Game stop as of now.

Megagamer42 : As of right now I doubt that there is any plans of adding those systems any time SOON... Davideo7, the owner of this site, Was kind enough to recently release Sega CD which is the first CD based game system on vizzed.

Right now the Sega CD is sort of a test to see how the CD based games do on the sites bandwidth and if it will hurt the site financially or not. If the Sega CD is a huge success then I'm sure davideo might consider adding more modern systems, but I cannot speak for davideo7.

The problem with these more modern systems is the games are significantly larger than the games currently in the RGR which requires much more bandwidth which costs $$$$. The more modern systems also are more likely to have more issues with copyright laws etc.

As of now , though like I said, I am of no one of power to make changes or to give a for sure answer, but I think it is safe to assume you wont be seeing any of the more modern systems anytime soon.

Local Mods : I'm sure this is a repeat question and I think I've pretty much answered it so this thread can probably be closed.

Megagamer42 : I think the biggest thing isn't even the money. Those CD games take up lots more memory than the cartridge games. So I think they would need to have some kind of data storing system in order to have so much memory, especially when you will most likely have many of them. It's just the data that they need to have, I think.

Before closing this, I will elaborate a bit more.

As for the bandwidth point, that is 100% true. The smallest PS1, gamecube, Dreamcast, etc, game is hundreds times larger than the largest N64 games. If just a few people were playing these games, it would stream so much information through the sight that everything would run incredibly slow for everyone else, and then cause the site to crash constantly. Having a server that has the capacity to stream that much information would cost a small fortune monthly.

Next, there are other issues. For example, Sony happens to be extremely..... how do I put this politically....... anal about people having even their old stuff available to play. Even taking Sony out of the picture, having those systems on here would draw too much unwanted attention. If for any reason whatsoever, Nintendo or Sega wanted to demand that all games under their copyright ownership be taken off the site, it is their legal right to do so. Drawing attention that way is a pretty good way to make them decide to do just that.

There are some other issues with it, but I think you get the point. It just isn't going to happen. Even if there were no risks, the cost pretty much seals the case. It wouldn't just be a matter of raising money. It would be a monthly cost.
