I was playing Final Fantasy 3, and about 35 hours into it, I decided I would be naughty and fight a bad guy I knew I probably couldn't beat.  So I saved the game, via F2 and lost the battle.  I had intended to just reload the game (via F4), but I accidentally hit the F2 button and saved the game in the game over position.  I searched for a way to go back and recall the save slots before this one, but I can't find a way.  Does anyone know how I can reload the game I was playing in a previous place before the game over screen?  There is "save points" in the game, but I can't find any prompt to load a game I was playing, and every time I press F4 it takes me to this place of death and sorrow.  Any ideas?  Please!!!!

Sorry, I don't think you can do that. Some of the SNES games have multiple save slots I think, but I don't know how they work.

If you saved in the game, you can load your game from the main menu. Either launch it fresh or let the game over sequence run and return to title. Hitting F4 isn't going to do anything for you since that has nothing to do with the game itself.

If you didn't save, then you're completely out of luck. Always save in RPGs every chance you get. It's better to use the actual in-game saving system rather than to rely on save states since you can hit the wrong button (like you did) and mess up your state.

There's no way to go back and undo it since what you did was literally over-write your old save state with the new one.

I'm assuming you played Final Fantasy 3 for the NES (since FF3 for the SNES is actually FF6)? The SNES emulator allows for save state switching so you can save in multiple different slots... though that still won't prevent you from saving over your file. At best, you could save in one slot and then switch your slot before doing anything else so that if you accidentally save again, it's over something else.
