I'm not exactly sure if I could say I am a huge fan of the entire sonic series. However I did love Sonic Adventure Battle 2 for the GameCube. I loved the Chao aspect of the game, and how you could customize your creature however you wanted depending on the animals or stat tubes you collected on a level. Also how you could play the entire story line either on the hero side or the dark side, and how they threw in extra quests for just one level. Overall, Sonic himself isn't one of my favorite characters. But being able to play the game with the core of the sonic crew made it just that much more interesting to play for me. Cheers ~Fox

Can't say I'm a fan of sonic but if I had to answer I would hay I like him for his willingness to do the right thing to do maybe one day he will catch up to genesis Robotnik I mean come on no one noticed how he could not catch up to him in the genesis that is also why I don't like him for his speed.

I'm a fan of Sonic there are games in the last decade that have shown there are good games out there starring Sonic. Sonic and the Secret Rings It took risks mostly in the controls and despite some execution problems (such as going backwards) it did pull a solid entry in the wii collection.

Sonic Colors is a great game, not just a great Sonic game, but a great general, albeit a bit short. Sonic Generations is a also a good game. It's much lengthier than Sonic Colors, but doesn't quite hit the quality of Sonic Colors. I think what make an amazing Sonic game is a consistent quality that Sonic Colors has that is as lengthy as Sonic Generations.

Speedy platforming gameplay excites me, flying around level maps at high speeds.
And that's precisely what Sonic is.
Like the Sonic Generations levels. Those are really well designed.
I miss when the levels weren't as linear, like SA2B where many stages had a decent amount of space to work with (Maybe not City Escape, but definitely Final Rush).

I always liked Sonic the Hedgehog primarily for the music.  It doesn't matter how bad a Sonic game can be(exception of Sonic Boom), the music never fails to impress me.  Some games had great gameplay and others didn't.  My favorite games are Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic Colors, and the Sonic Genesis/Megadrive games.

I like sonic because of the fast paced and less puzzle oriented gameplay. Not to mention the soundtracks in pretty much all games except maybe sonic boom and some other game despite how bad the game may have been overall has always been excellent. Sadly actual good sonic games seem to become less and less since sega rarely seems to listen to their fans besides generations and keep insisting on introducing gimmicks that no one asks for and games like sonic boom and sonic 06 seem to be rushed, and like they barely had any effort put into them.

I found Sonic to be a more enjoyable character than Mario. He's quicker, he jumps higher and the music in the games is more enjoyable. He is also more life-like since he can drown, unlike Mario. The puzzles (Special Stages) are more complex, which requires more thinking and I like it.

Finally, the second player actually serves a purpose; Luigi is just there for... what, exactly?

LunarDarkness2 : Story? I admit that from the Sky Chase Zone to the end of Sonic 3 and Knuckles there is a logical progression. But all other games are just a piling up of zones with no logical link between them. It's like most Mario games: move to the end of the zone to defeat the boss and, ultimately, the final boss.

janus : I think it may be a matter of opinion. I feel that some Sonic games have some story within them. Especially Sonic Adventure 2. Which is on the Sega Dreamcast. That is the Sonic game that I feel has the most story to it, as well as my favorite Sonic game.

Tough question.

I don't really know the whole reason behind why I like sonic, but I just do. I love the shadow character in the show and games, and I like the whole idea of speed in there.

There are wonderful characters in the game with awesome story lines, so why wouldn't you love sonic.

That's seriously the only thing I like so far. I grew up with Sonic cartoons and such, but they never really did anything for me. THAT, however, I like. It's a neat take, and the concept of a 'werehog' is both original and funny. (really, imagine a werewolf hedgehog running around in real life. It would be like a Chihuahua werewolf. Funny.)

As a character I sort of like Sonic because he's capable of growing and showing emotion, while not being too overly bland.
As a franchise... that's a harder question. Maybe it's cliche but I love the fast pace. I can deal with the somewhat linear level design when I have the ability to speed through everything as a blur.

I'm also not sure whether you mean as a character or the franchise. I will start out with the character. I like him as a character because of the fact that he looks really cool, and he is usually a really nice guy. I like the franchise because I grew up with the franchise, and it was the first series of games I ever played.

Here's a better question: who DOESN'T like Sonic?? He's fantastic. Obviously a notable decrease in quality of games over the past decade so his name has been a bit tarnished but he's still a pretty sweet gaming icon.
