I enjoy putting either gravy or ketchup on my french fries with a little bit of salt and pepper. I also like eating fries plain sometimes or, as weird as it sounds, dipping them in chocolate milkshakes. I did it on a dare from my sister and it actually wan't that bad, but I definitely don't do it all the time.

Ketchup, of course.

I like eating my Fries with it, because it tastes really good... I mean, who doesn't like to add Ketchup to his Fries? Delicious!

I have to have my french fries plain... I just don't think that there's a better way to eat them than just... eating them. :/
Piercing the fry's delicious, crispy golden hide and having the fluffy inside puff out, shaking off a few grains of salt that hit your tongue and excite your taste buds, intensifying the flavor...

So can I ask an odd question?  Are there certain parts of the country that like to do the 'gravy on fries' think?  (For example, okra is only considered a southern food.)

I've lived in both the north and the south for good deals of time, and I've never heard of it or seen it.
Is it kind of like country gravy mix that you put on a biscuit, because I love that stuff!  And now you guys are making me want to put that stuff on fries whether that is the gravy you are talking about or not! LOL

I don't really eat French fries to be honest.... In England the chips are mainly larger and fatter .... Either way all chips/fries taste a lot better when they have ketchup to dip them in... Other sauces are great as well... But I have ketchup more often than others.

Singelli :   I'm not sure if it's a regional thing or not.  I usually just use brown gravy but I think any would work.  I used to work at a restaurant and the deep fryers were right beside where we kept all the different kinds of gravy.  Once in awhile when we weren't busy and there were a few spare fries still in the deep fryer I started grabbing one sometimes and dipping it in the gravy and eating it.    That's when I realized I liked it.  Now anytime I have fries for dinner with a main course that has gravy (salisbury steaks for instance) I cover my fries with gravy too.

McDonald's french fries are amazing, then again, I barely eat anything- so when I eat junk food I don't get very affected if not at all.

I may sound boring but I just like my fries with salt. I may occasionally put ketchup but I rarely do, mostly as a replacement for salt or just out of boredom. I feel like it just takes away the taste of the fries. However, the fries with gravy sounds rather interesting.

I just recently got the chance to try the French Fries with gravy. I had Country Gravy with sausage bits and french fries - which turned out really good. So I have to add that to my list of "French Fry Toppings that I like".

My favorite fries are similar to the cheese fries at Outback Steakhouse. melted cheddar, bacon bits. I'd add maybe some kind of frazzled onion and a fried egg too.... mmmmm

I like French fries by themselves, with gravy, and on the rare occasion that I have French fries and a milk shake from a fast food restaurant (especially a Frosty) I like to dip the fries in it. It sounds weird, but I swear it's delicious. It works pretty well with most chicken nuggets too, or at least all of the ones I've tried. Oh, and reading through other peoples responses just now, I can't believe I forgot about cheese fries; I'm guessing those count, anyway.

I know some people use mayonnaise, and apparently some people mix mayonnaise with ketchup and call it "French fry sauce". Personally, I don't like ketchup on anything and the only thing I like mayonnaise with is tuna fish, but to each their own.

We have this dip made specially for French Fries where I live called fry sauce. It has an unexplainable yet pleasant taste. If you want to try it, just mix some mayonnaise and Ketchup together. It sounds pretty disgusting, but if you put the right amount of Mayonnaise in it, you will not regret anything (hopefully).

Salt and or ketchup is always good. Well, ketchup is good with everything. But if you really want to pig out, ranch dip or just plain mayo makes it escellent... Though I have to admit these days I eat fries maybe one to three times a year and am too lazy to bother with anything other than ketchup.

It's so bad but I love to do it like they eat in Amsterdam, with mayonnaise. I don't know why but mannoyise and fries are just so good. Thankfully for my arteries I don't eat fries that much. Though when I get a gyro at Greek shops I get a little thing of cucumber sauce which is a much better alternative.
